hey guys,
im a swimmer as well as a bass player. during the swim season i stretched the ligaments in my shoulders. it became so that my arm would pop out of the socket quite easily. im also able to push it out voluntarily and a slight pull on my wrist towards the ground will also pull it out. so i went to the doctor cuz i was smashing something im my shoulder swimming and it hurt. he told me the story and i started going to therapy. low and behold there was an insurance flubb and i couldnt go anymore. so i shrugged it off and decided to just live with it till i could go back to therapy. then the other day will doing slap on my bass my shoulder started to burn, it was the workout type burn. i realized it was very similar to the excercise they had me do in rehab. so i thought that was pretty cool, i can work on my technique and get my shoulder back in shape at the same time. thought id share this little story of how my bass helped me out.

OH MY GOD!!!!

Thank god there is someone else who understands suffering like me!!!

I have exactly the same shoulder problem and am receiving therapy as well. I had the house to myself on Saturday afternoon and I was slapping the holy mother out of my SR to test my amp repairs and about half an hour after I had finished I got exactly the same burning. I am not sure that the therapy is going to do the trick though and my physio might have to refer me back to a knife merchant!!

Interestingly (well for some of us perhaps) my physio, when first diagnosing my shoulder problem, reckons that playing finger style and the postioning of my bass for 15+ years had probably been a major cause of the problem because my left side muscle setup (i am a lefty player) is all out of sync around my shoulder and back.

yea they were considering knifing me to fix the problem, but they wanted to try therapy first becuase it was cheaper and they didnt think it was to bad. so thats what i did, and i went for like a month once a week, i dont think it did much but thats me. i think if i go back ill tell them therapy didnt do anything in my opinion, i should be going back sometime soon. maybe theyll refer me to the knife. i use my bass doing the same basic thing as some of the excerises and have alot more fun. glad to know that im not the only one with gimp shoulders. maybe your phyios right. but i slump down when i sit, you know like on the bottom of my back instead of my butt, and the therapist said that probably had a lil to do with it, but it was probably more of the swimming.
