hmmmm....... I like the massage my innards get while standing in front of my bass amp? :p no, seriously I think the bass is one of the best instruments to delve into because of the harmonic and rythmic duality of it.We are the liason between the rhythm of the drums and the harmonic/melodic content that's supplied by the guitar/piano/vox,etc. so we get this great job of being very rythmic with the drums and then not only affect the feel of a song but also thetone and timbre of a song by getting melodic with our basslines.... but that's just my 2 bits...... :D

besides, who's cooler than Mingus?

Does there have to be a good reason?

It would be overly simplistic to say I play bass because it's cool. And you'd be wrong to say I play bass because I'm just a frustrated guitarist.

Weird thing is, I can't even begin to tell you why I play bass. Only bass. It's kinda like I was born with a bass bone.

I do remember picking up my brother's acoustic guitar (when I was 10) and picking out the bass lines in some early Beatles records. That's where it began for me.

I've even tried to quit playing and focus on more important (?) issues in life. But that didn't work.

The Bongo is the most recent influence on me to pick up a bass. Just for the fun of playing. I'm not in a band right now. That's OK. I can pick up my bass anytime I want.

Pick up a bass. If you hear it and feel it.... well you will know.

It's just plain cool!

I started, a long, long time ago, because it "was cool"...

Along the way I played guitar and drums - found I was an okay guitar player and a damn good drummer...

In the end, I am a bass player, because, well, it's cool... ;)

It's cool to drive... It's cool to be the anchor, the body, the heart and soul of the song... It's cool to make people move... The bass owns the critical central space that the "other" instruments revolve around. The bass is the center of the musical universe.

It's just so friggin' cool...

i cant explain it ... soemone above said something like "pick one up and see how u feel" ... i totally agree with that. im a decent guitar player too but i just love playing bass; theres something about it that rules.

plus you get to rattle picture frames off walls n stuff ... what could possibly be cooler than that

I said pick it up and see how it feels. I played a guitar for 25 years. I have played bass for 4 years now. I have never figured out why it took me so long to get where I wanted to creating music.

If this was a serious qustion you should let us know if you have the answer.
