I have a couple of cheaper basses that I use for recording - I need to change the strings on them but am not sure how to work out the scale length - I believe there are a number of alternatives - I have only ever changed strings on a bass once - and that wasnt mine!

Hi - thanks. The distance from the nut to fret 12 on my i****z ATK is 17" so that gives me 34". Does that fit into any particular catagory? Is that a standard for a bass - the strings also thread through the body and up through the bridge - I suppose that is standard as well although I have never really examined this closely on bass guitars before - more to learn!
Thanks.

34" is standard, and as the 30 ann SR has strings sthru I think you can safely use EB Slinkys.

Being totally anal about things like this I had to measure a string, a .100 Slinky. The fully wound lenght is 930 mm, which is about 36.6 inches. Measure one of the strings you remove from ball end to nut and you'll be sure if it fits.
