Hello all, I am trying to get people's opinions on bass strings.

Can anyone tell me what they feel are the most "popular" bass strings, as opposed to your personal favorite and the difference in your opinion between the two?

I have tried EB strings, DR's, and D'Addario strings. I keep coming back to EB everytime and I can't figure out why everyone at my local music store keeps pushing the DR's (and their premium price tag) on me.

Am I alone in my love of the EB string feel and tone?

No you're not alone. I'm an SR5 player and I think EBs work very well with Stingray bass guitars. I don't like D'Addario's but DR's are great, especially on 4 string basses.

Hey, Mr. Thick...
It really doesn't matter what strings are popular or not, it all comes down to you. Eveyone is gonna have their opinion, but...only you have the facts. You are the one to determine whats best. Popular schmopular, they don't matter, if you keep going back to Ernies, than you've answered your own question! For me (a bass player) it always has and always will be Power Slinks.(they don't have a Power set in 5 string though...yet):D

WOW,

Great minds think alike, at the 2004 winter Namm (January) we will debut a couple new bass sets. One could possibly be called Power 5's?

Hey there, I recently posted a strings thread in the bass section 'cause, well, I'm a bassist and don't venture out from that forum much ;) anywho, we did get to talkin' about the niceties of D'Axxxxx Slo-Wounds but I've just recieved my complimentary set of Slinkys(first time I've ever played Slinks) for registering my SR5 and well, EB, I'm a convert! now about those Power Slinks...... :D

I have returned to flat wound EB's on the Sabre and i wonder why I ever changed, to me they sound full and I can still get the high punch that the Sabre was well known for

when i was playing bass *many years ago* i used Elixer strings. i really liked how smooth and slick the polyweb coating made them feel and they had good life. they tended to sound a little bit more "dead" and had a bit less sustain in my opinion but overall i liked how they played. i'm currently trying the Elixer nanoweb strings on my guitars, but will be going back to D addarios.
