Getting ready for an audition and thought I'd put a fresh cell in the SR5.
I changed the cell but the compartment wouldn't snap closed properly (yes the + and - were in the right spots) when I finally got it to close and plugged back in I got no signal at all.
I removed the cell and it tested hot. Tried the old cell that was working in there minutes before and still nothing.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

I've also found that the terminal shaped like a crown (I don't have a 9 volt in front of me, +/-?) needs to be turned so that the flat sides line up parallel with the sides of the battery. They go in perfectly every time that way.

Sometimes the copper tabs in the battery box get pushed/bent in such a way that they no longer make good contact with the terminals on the battery, prohibiting preamp from getting sufficient power. Try to pry the tabs back up. If that is not it you may have a broken solder joint on the battery box or at the preamp where the box attaches. If neither of those solutions help you then please call us, toll free, @ 866-823-2255.

It worked!!!
I opened the compartment and checked the wires, The solder points looked good. I bent the leads slightly in to make better contact and had to go through 3 duracells till I found one that slid all the way into place so the compartment could snap closed easily.
I've never experienced this problem before with pop up covers and I've had this bass since '03. Maybe Ill try an Energizer next time:D
Thank you all for the kind advice:)

Good learning here.

At the risk of a thread hijack, I have a battery compartment question as well. One of my Bongo battery "doors" is very hard to open. I really have to stand on the tab to get open..sometimes, using a flat screwdriver to push down the tab and pry open. Anything I can do to loosen it up? I had it apart last night and there was nothing obvious. Worried that in time, I'll break it.

thx

mine was like that with this last cell I was trying to change. It was just slightly bigger than usual and I must have pushed the tabs out of shape when I pushed the cover closed.

This is exactly the problem I am having with my new EBMM Stingray; I went to replace the old Duracell, and the compartment wouldn't close or snap shut. I twisted the "crown" around and it fit, but the output was diminished. I tried a crappy Ray-o-vac 9 volt, and it worked perfectly. This is unsettling, to say the least. I will try Energizers tomorrow.

The Energizer fits perfectly. Also the Ace Hardware Alkaline fits perfectly; fellow locals here say the latter lasts as long as the big boys, and I know one hospital uses them as well.

Interesting. I've got Duracells in there now. I'm due for a batt change before the weekend. I'll pick up some Energizers and see if there's any difference.

We use Duracell because they seem to be the most consistent in size. Keep in mind that 9 volt batteries vary in size, even from the same manufacturer. Unfortunately it's not something that we can control. Use whatever seems to work best for you though!
