Was out at a gig friday night when my silo special started to make a crackling noise. Thought it was my lead so swapped it for another but it carried on.
During the break i noticed the battery compartment appeared to be the cause of it. The cover seems to push in too far and this must be causing the battery to momentarily move away from the contact.
As far as im aware the guitar hasnt had any knocks to cause this and ive never had this on any of my EBMM instruments before.
Any ideas?

I had that problem. At first I assumed it was loose battery so I just used a piece of folded card/paper at the base of battery to act as a shim/weak spring to help push the battery in place. If that doesnt work, it's probably one of the wires has come loose at the base of the battery box.

It can be a little tricky to resolder as the box melts in a heart beat if you're not careful. If that happens just buy a new box (it's a Gotoh BB-04, you don't need to go through CS), which is pre-wired at the box end and much easier to connect. (I just cut the existing wires and soldered to them rather than mess with connector terminals).

Ive just had a proper look at it.
Ive put a piece of foam in the bottom of the cavity, hopefully that will fix it. Got no amp to hand to try it. The solder/joint on the negative side didnt look great so i might have to resolder that. Might order a battery box as a spare just in case.

Switchcraft 112BX is the factory spec part. The battery is only part of the silent circuit. If battery connection is lost, the guitar will still work fine but the single coil positions might be a little more sensitive to external interference.
