The battery in my SR 30th is getting a bit low, and there is a small amount of distortion in my sound. You gotta listen carefully to notice it. I was gonna change the battery, but I LIKE the sound  The sound is probably gonna degrade as the battery goes lower though.
Do any of you know a very mild distortion/overdrive effect box?

Sounds like a new marketing idea. Battery Distortion. Cheaper than a pedal. Come in varying strengths.

You won't like the sound for long. :)

How about a volt-decreaser knob? Lower voltage for aloooooong time with a new battery :D
(Not that I want to mod anything on this beauty)

Best distortion (IMO) devices to use on a (MusicMan) bass:
- SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver D.I.
- SansAmp Tri-A.C. (actually for guitar, but great on bass)
- SansAmp RBI Bass preamp

Really really nice. Really. Nice.
Try it! :D

Sounds like something that happened to my JP6 right before a Cats rehearsal. Plugged the piezo into my Marshall AS50R acoustic amp and heard the most beautiful overdrive in the world... except it was supposed to be clean. I was freaked out cuz I had just sent my JP7 to EB for some piezo issues and I was like "oh no not this one too" but a new Procell 9volt cleared it right up.

Sounds cool, but at that point the battery will be dead really soon! I use a Fulltone Bassdrive powered at 18v with a Dunlop DC Brick.

The Flipster from OL Circuits seems like a nice mild overdrive. Hopefully I'll be able to post a review sometime in the near future.

Other than that, I'll have to agree with the SansAmp recommendation, as long as you can tolerate a little extra signal noise.

I personally can't stand sans amps too many knobs and no matter how much i twist em.. it just doesnt sound right. I also use a fulltone bassdrive.

SansAmp + Mod = no signal noise :)

Are you sure we're talking about the same thing?
SansAmp circuits have usually:
- Drive
- Presence (adds upper harmonics)
- Bass
- Treble

And some have:
- Mids

I don't see how that be too many knobs... okay, the funny thing about the SA circuits is that the EQ knobs change their characteristics depending on the setting of the other knobs. Sort of an interactive fun stuff thingy. Maybe BP should look into that general idea for bass EQs... :D

Nope actually i checked out the sans amp website and i have had experience with the programmable bass di.6 knobs all the sliders.. looks like there are simpler versions, didnt mean to bash. was just stating preference.

I like the Rat Deucetone (not the Juggernaut) for bass. It has two rat boxes. Each one has a 3 way swithc on back to choose turbo rat or vintage rat. The 3rd position is "dirty rat" on one, "clean rat" on the other. It gets a nice barely gritty sound on the clean rat setting. The vintage rat setting is useless to me as its a mid forward, bass shy tone. Turbo is where its at for me as it also has a lot more output and a lot more bass.
