Hey guys!
As you may or may not know, back in Nov or so I purchased two brand new EBMM's. I got a BFR Luke and an ASS 2007LE w/ MM90's. The ASS I bought brand new from Pete and the Luke I got lucky and got from Don. Pete told me that he doesn't have access to the production numbers on the ASS LE, but he and I both gathered that it could be sort of a rare bird as neither he nor I have ever seen another one. So, if you happen to have a 2007 LE ASS with MM90's, let me know!
Right about the time I got these guitars, I decided that I wanted to get a different amp. My XTLive and my Atomic 2x12 weren't really doing it for me. Esp the Atomic. It sounds killer and all, but it's very very directional. You have to have it pointed right at your head to hear it. If you move around too much, it's just white noise. So, I bought a Line 6 Spider Valve 2x12 and it's a whole new world. I'm MUCH MUCH happier with it, and it's more portable. (Btw.. my XTLive and my Atomic will soon be for sale. PM me if you want to know more).
The guitar I got first was the Luke. So, I've been playing that the most. I love the ASS, but I just CAN'T PUT THE LUKE DOWN. I've got a neck problem (with MY neck, not the guitars!), and it's degenerative. Long story short, sitting at computer screen all day long with bad posture, combined with years of playing, head bobbing, etc... it's starting to cause me a great deal of pain. Pain that forces me to change my habits. I now sit a straight as a board, have home traction unit, and try to use better posture when playing. This means I don't move around as much, and look like a tool, but I have no choice. As a result, my neck has improved to almost 100% pain free! (although, I do take prescription non-narcotic pain meds every day). So, my point...? What was it? Oh yeah... it's that my beloved Les Paul, which will be buried with me, sits on display in my house now. Why? Well.. because A. it's heavy, and B. because I've gotten used to the Luke's sound, and now I can't put it down. It's probably the most comfortable guitar I've ever had. It's well balanced, the neck feels broken in out of the box, and it's lightweight. All my friends are in love with it. So, I've gigged with it about five times.
I recently put 10's on it, and I can play it fine. But I think I'm going to put 9's back on it. I let a friend check it out last night, and he was blown away by how it felt. He couldn't believe they were 10's said they felt like 9's. I almost felt the 9's made the guitar "too easy" to play. And since we tune down to Eb, I thought 10's would be the best choice. And they ARE fine. But I think I'm going to put 9's back on it. I'm endorsed by Knucklehead strings, so I have boxes of each laying around. I had to set the guitar back up, but that was easy. I did it per some instructions here, and it's good to go. I'll have to set it back up again when I go down to the 9's again, but I don't mind.
I also put 10's on the ASS. But as soon as I played it, I could tell that it really felt the best with 9's on it. It's weird how some guitars do and some don't, and of the same scale length too? I've gigged with the ASS LE twice now, and I think I'm just too much of a "rock" player to get the right kind of use out of it.
I had his Les Paul Deluxe handy last night and did an A/B using the same settings and the difference was subtle, yet apparent. It seems that what I like about "our" P90's, is the very thing these MM90's don't have. From the moment we launched into the first song of our set, I knew almost right away that it wasn't going to be for me. My other band mate Jimmie knew it right away too. HA! He has a LP Deluxe w/ P90's, and I love it. I have a 69 SG Special w/ P90's and I love it too. But those P90's have a different sort of tone and output that these MM90's don't have (they also buzz like a bitch too). Ours both sound open, yet hot. They have that "sizzle" that sounds really awesome if you roll yer vol back to get that sort of "natural clean overdrive" type of sound. But I don't find this the case w/ my ASS LE. With the vol cranked, it's a little harsh sounding, and if I turn the vol down, the sound just gets kinda "dull". Jimmie said the same thing. He knows what I want too, and we want the same thing pretty much. So, I know it's not me.
It's a damn shame though, cuz it LOOKS AMAZING. My drummer said last night, not knowing how I felt about the guitar, "I love that thing. That color is just bad ass and it just looks killer". HA! I WANT to like it SO BADLY, but I just can't justify holding on to it. I'd rather have something that I'll play.
So, it seems that the ASS LE will be up for sale soon. I guess I'll try the Ebay route. I don't have any pix of it yet, but imagine an ASS LE with MM90's in mint condish. It doesn't have a scratch or ding on it. The case is near mint too. I say near mint only cuz I store it in a closet, and when getting it in and out of the car, the closet, etc, it got a little rash, but I don't think anything is torn. Just a few small scuffs. I have all the case candy, shipping box etc. You'd be getting it just how I opened it from Pete.
This may not be the right place for it, but I kinda would rather TRADE for something. I'm pretty much sold on the JP. I wanted to get one anyway, and keep the LE too. But at this point in my life, I'd rather have a guitar I'll play, than something that looks good on the wall. So, I'd like to trade someone for a JP6. I'd give anything for a JP6 in Blue Dawn. That would be my first choice. The other colors I like, more indicate what I don't want. But these are the other colors I love: Mystic Dream, Radiance Red, Medallion Gold, Lava Pearl, Pearl Blue, Burnt Apple Sparkle, Gold Sparkle, Glacier Blue Sparkle, Desert Gold, Autumn Red and also the Autumn Redrise Sparkle. I would give my left nut for a Dargie JP6. that would require a trade and cash, which is fine too.
Upon reading this, if you can tell me what "section" to post this trade query in, that would be great. For sale? Ebay? or just the straight up forum section?
But this is more of an advertisement for just how much I love my MM's, esp the BFR Luke!
Thanks guys for all the help and suggestions along the way (so far!),
Jason
