The good EBMM folks will send a completely loaded pickup assembly, if you own a Silo Special for it to drop into. I don't know if they'd also sell one to a modified Benji, but it might be worth calling and asking them. Then all you'd have to do is route the body and drop it in. The options would be either a SSS or HSS, and for the most part it would become a Silo Special. The stock singles are Di Marzio custom wound, and the HB is a Di Marzio Virtual PAF.

Thats great advice, and I did call and speak with a very helpful gentleman from EBMMCS. Your exactly right about the options available. A complete assy. is about $300, which is a great price, but I can do it much cheaper if I use the stock parts and I really want two humbuckers.

So, I've decided to try the HH / 3 way set up with the stock bridge PU and a DiMarzio Hum from Hell in the neck. According to their website, this Humbucker has a SC sound and will handle distortion without mudding up. I like a bright neck PU and it's probably going to balance OK with the stock bridge PU which seems to be "very vintage".

Does anyone know what model PU came stock in the Benji?

Thanks, Mike

:D OK, I finished the Benji project and it turned out really nice. I installed a Dimarzio "Humbucker from Hell" in the new neck route and a "Mo'Joe" in the bridge just to give it a more aggressive lead/crunch tone. (I didn't like the stock "vintage" hummer). This pickup delivers some crazy harmonics! Really fun to play. I gigged it this weekend and the neck was a little bright, almost brittle on single treble notes though my Rivera Fandango clean channel. Jazz chords sound great though, and everything I played on the lead Pup ripped.

My goal was to create a super versatile guitar, capable of Jazzy clean tones and modern crunch and lead tones thought a modern two channel combo. I'm really happy with the way this turned out. I think I can EQ the clean a little better to reduce the harshness of the neck Pup, probably wont find a good blues tone but I have a whole collection of guitars that do that. The only thing I miss is a trem. EBMM Rocks

Thanks for all the advise guys, I'll post a pic or two ASAP.
