Just wondering who at EBMM was involved, (and to what extent), in the design of the Luke guitar.

ie: the body shape, woods, frets etc...

I am sure Steve lukather had a considerable amount of input, but I am sure there are others who were involved in the process.

Any information is appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

If my memory serves me correctly, I'm pretty sure it was Dudley all by himself that came up with the Luke body shape. Luke had stated in several interviews that Valley Arts Guitar burned down and it turned out that Dudley was working at EBMM by then. I also recall that EVH helped bring in Luke.

As for fret size, I think that all of the Music Man guitars of the early 90's had the same fretwire across the board. At the time, they had the Silhouette (24 fret), Silo Special, Steve Morse, EVH, Luke and Albert Lee. I think the Silo 6 string bass came out shortly after that.

All of the guitars had different neck profiles. I never got to try an Albert Lee or a Steve Morse back in the early 90's but I did own a Silo 24 fret that had a matte poly finish on the neck. It really felt different from an EVH. And when the Luke came out that became my second fav neck.

Luke I neck really is different from a Luke II or III neck. I'd say Luke II and III are the same. I've had 4 Luke I's and they all felt slimmer and "faster" than the Luke II or III.

I don't know, but I LOVE the whole guitar, neck shape, body shape, colors, etc.. For me, being not such a big fan of pick guards, the Luke was perfect... Just waiting for the Bodhi Blue to join the fam...

Thanks for all of the info guys I genuinely appreciate. It goes without saying that the luke is my favorite guitar. I am also awaiting delivery of another luke which should arrive this Thursday and I think that was the impetus for finding out more about the guitar. Seems Dudley is the maestro behind the instruments. My hat is off to him and Mr. Lukather for a smoking guitar that suits me just perfectly.

Thanks again guys, really appreciate all the info and repsonses.

Jorge,

Some beautiful colors on those lukes you have. =)

Cheers,

Tom
