Hey dougray
My previous main bass was an Ibanez BTB 5 string, top of the line with 18v preamp, 35" scale, graphite inlays in the neck and individual bridges to ensure proper insulation between the strings. I played it for two and a half years and then I traded it for my Stingray 5. Avery aspect of the SR5 tone, playability and feel is far superior on the MM bass including the B string. Good B string seem to be the result of many contributing factors of which scale length is only one. It seems to be the cheapest way to reduce floppiness but similar results can be achieved with a stable neck, a good bridge, first class electronics and high quality wood. The B string on the MM SR5 is top notch.
Peace
