I'm searching for a great fuzz pedal that will absolutely decimate the sound; making it squishy gnarly, gnasty, fat and fuzzy. I like the Big Muff Pi - but I got rid of it once (can't remember why - think that's when I went multi-effects...)

Anyhoo, the pedals I'm looking at are:

Way Huge Swollen Pickle MkII
Earthquaker Devices Hoof Fuzz
Big Muff Pi (various configurations; I know they make a huge number of different ones)
Mooer Triangle Fuzz

Not sure I wanna spend too much, since it will not be a staple of my sound, but I'm writing a song right now that I feel NEEDS the decimation that only a fuzz pedal can give. This will be going into my Mark IV combo ch. 2 already somewhat overdriven.

Alternatively, I may really just need something like the TC Electronic Spark pedal to take the signal from my OD pedal and slam it into the front end to get the sound I'm after...

Tips? Suggestions? Anecdotal evidence? Thanks guys and gals!

asking about fuzz pedals is like asking about amps... every reply is going to be different.

That being said, I love fuzz and own quite a collection. I recently got my first Devi Ever pedal and highly recommend this:

It really covers the bases but yet lets the guitar setting come through. I'm super impressed with this one, and it cost a good bit less than most of my others.

Good luck!

So I ended up going with the Deluxe Big Muff Pi.

First of all, I didn't know it existed. I absolutely LOVE the Big Muff Pi tone but it gets a little unruly, noisy, inarticulate... These can be good qualities sometimes, but sometimes you just want the fuzz; well the DBMP delivers! Check it out (from the EH website):

"- Delivers all the classic sounds of the original NYC Big Muff Pi, plus extra features
- Foot-switchable MIDS Section helps you cut through when recording or playing live
- MIDS section features four controls so you can fine tune your midrange boost or cut
- Noise gate with adjustable Gate control eliminates noise and hum while preserving your attack and original tone
- Adjustable Attack control adds punch to your single notes and chords
- Switchable Bass Boost for added bottom when you want it
- Expression Pedal input lets you sweep the mids in real time
- True bypass for maximum signal path integrity
- 9V Battery included"

The gate is awesome! The attack is awesome! The mids parametric EQ section is super versatile. And the attack really adds snarl and articulation to notes. This is probably one of the most versatile fuzz pedals out there - and that's what I needed. I also shot it out with all the other Big Muff pedals and the only one that came close was the tone wicker one. While I'm sure some of those boutique/unique pedals are great, I really needed versatility and I already knew I loved the Big Muff tone - so I was already biased :)

Anyway, here's my pedalboard now - clean, elegant, simple, and an absolute tone factory:

It's brilliant because the Odie feeds nicely into the Muff, and the Spark makes ANYTHING before it sound better. I'm in tone heaven with this board :)

Thanks for the suggestions though!

My personal favorite "pure" Muff is the Wren and Cuff Box of War.

Sorry for all the separate posts it wouldn't let me post all the videos in one reply. Hope that helps!

Those were awesome vids! I love hearing fuzz pedal videos :) But since I've already made my decision, all you've managed to do is rekindle the GAS that had been (temporarily) extinguished lol.

I use Nano Muff, killer sounds from it

YES!

I tried this one against the "Little Big Muff," The one with tone wicker, and the deluxe (my decision) - but I was VERY impressed by the nano; if I was on a tighter budget or didn't need the ridiculous versatility of the deluxe, that would have been perfect.
