whats everyone's favourite stings for their stingrays. My strings that came with my bass are about to die, and i need some new ones. Now i know everyone is gonna say ernieball slinky strings are the best, seeing as this is the ernie ball website.... but what are some other good quality brands, im looking for a more growly sound and strings that don't loose thier sound as fast as slinky's
thanks

The strings that came with your bass were nickel strings that are smoother to the touch but last less.

Try any quality -stainless steel- strings (Ernie Ball, GHS, Ken Smith, Rotosound, etc). They are brighter and last longer, but are more a little expensive and a little rougher to the touch, but they also have a meaner tone.

The other options is the newer -coated- string like Elixirs, they last 5 time loner than any other string and are super smooth, but they are way mellowre sounding and warmer (think old school sound) and are really smooth, but they cost a lot...

Lots of choices, but for waht you want, can´t go wrong with Stainless Steel. Remeber to clean them every time after you play. They (any string) will last much, much longer..

I use Status Hotwires, the stainless steel round cores, 40-125 on my Stingray 5 and they sound great, last quite long and are half the price compared to DR Hi Beams which were my previous favourites. Similar in tonal character but the top en is a bit better with the Hotwires.

Well, I've been known to play Stingrays and Sterlings and so on, and the biggest fattest coolest old school tone comes from.....

...no surprise to some of you......

I"ve only used Ernie Ball strings on both of my StingRay5 basses. They sounded great right from the start so I figured: why should I use different strings? I've tried just about every string out there on other basses I own. Ernie Ball strings are good strings at a fair price, but if you want strings that will hold that original bight sound a bit longer, you may want to try stainless steel strings. They are brighter and last a bit longer, but they are harder on your frets and a little noisier. Dean Markley Blue Steels are nice strings. I'm not into strings that cost alot of money, I don't feel you get all that much better sound or longer life from them that warrants the extra price. Everone's hand sweat chemistry varies, some strings last longer for some than others. You have to find ones that are right for you.

Pyramid Flats will thin out your wallet but thicken your sound. I haven't settled on a choice for rounds yet. For long time, I used good old cheap GHS Bass Boomers. Those rock! Lately, I had a chance to play some Ken Smith rounds on a J bass, so I'm itching to try those now.
