...trem posts! (well what else were you expecting?)

So I was wondering how you go about doing this safely as the knife edges are in constant contact with the trem posts. I don't wanna damage the knife edges but I do wanna prolong their life by using some lube like Big Bends Nut Sauce. Is there a good way of going about it without getting in a sticky mess? [cough] Stick to the subject guys!

Any suggestions? Norm I'm pretty sure I've seen you post about this??!!!?!?

Cheers yall

Well I've taken trems off my guitars before, mostly the Floyd's...although I may get attacked...if you loosen both the springs and the string tension then simply pull off the springs you could then slip in there and lube till the sun goes down...just make sure yoiu have some kind of soft cloth or light soft foam underneath the trem, as to not bump the guitar.

Take em off, dip em in Slick 50, wait 5 minutes, wipe it off, reinstall. That stuff'll last on there for years.

Isn't that the stuff they use in Nascar?

Yeah it's for engines ... any metal on metal contact. Works awesome. Someone else turned me onto to it for my bridges. The bonus ... when you're done lubing the metal on your bridge(s) you can put the rest in your car.

If using a motor oil, then use one with graphite in it. It will last longer than the conventional.

You scared me for second there!

Dip your trem in Slick 50?

I'm not suggesting dipping the whole thing, but rub it on any parts that would be in metal on metal contact. Just wipe it off once it sits for a few minutes.

Slick 50 is synthetic, and has some kind of compound in it that helps it bind to the metal, it lasts forever on the kind of friction you get from a trem system.

Because I'm worth it I took my piezo tremolo bridge off and cleaned it up this weekend. I was going to use the graphite Vaseline mixture that I usually use to lube the posts but in the past I have noticed it tends to have some undesirable vibration dampening qualities. So this time the only thing I used was Remington Teflon Spray. I got mine at wal mart sporting goods section. I think it’s the same stuff that the link shows but my can is a little different. Talk about shine and slick. I have said it before and I will say it again. "That stuff is slicker then greased owl sh*t that's been boiled with okra! :D "

When I put it back together I was amazed at how bright sounding the guitar was. All I did was clean the bridge. I found myself rolling off the tone knob. I used it for the nut slots as well. Again it cleaned the bridge so well it was SCARY how bright the guitar sounded.

Thanks guys,

sound advice, but ur telling me the only way to do it is to detach the trem from the body to provide enough access to the posts?

Thanks for the tip on the motor oils, I hadn't thought of that. :D
