Hi, I'm New Here, Altough I've Been Reading Topics For A Long Time, But Now An Ebay Sterling Is About To Get Here, And I Decided To Register And Begin Posting Too...

Do You Guys Know If There's Any Preference About Manufacturing Years For Sterling Basses? The One I Won On Ebay Seems To Be A 1996 One, It Doesn't Have The F In The Serial Number, And According To The Serial Dating Page And The Type Of Bridge And Logo, It Should Be A 1996... Any Better Or "most Wanted" Years For Sterlings?

Regards.

Personally, mine is a 1994 and I love it. I'm not sure what the little differences are between the older and newer one besides the bridge and the battery compartment, but bottom line, ya can't go wrong. Welcome aboard, matey...

I have found Music Man basses to have been one of the most consistant I don't think you will find one year better than another.

well, thank you guys, i finally got my sterling this week, it's a 1996 model, trans red, in average condition for the year: several nicks and scratches at the body and headstock, rust on polepieces (plus some serious sanding over them, could you believe it?), but frets still have a long life to come...

i started cleaning and polishing it, and figured that the pickup cover is not easily removeable... carefully cut the seal both sides, but seems to be glued in the middle too, so i couldn't put the cover apart from the whole pickup... i cleaned the upper surface of the polepieces but edges are still rusty...

i guess i was used to easily put apart fender instruments, but this one, altough is very similar, has some special features that make it a little more difficult to deeply clean and polish... anyway, i put it all together and installed a fresh set of strings, quick setup and voilá! great musicman sound...

any ideas about pickup covers? are they interchangeable?

i'll do an accurate setup this afternoon, i'll tell ya later how it goes...

thanks.

well, i took some light pics of the bass, hope it works...

i have the serial number and the dates on body and neck... is it helpful if i send it to the serial number database? i mean, is that the way it works? i don't know wether my bass was made in the body or the neck date, buy surely its a 96 and sounds great... :)

49358 is the serial number on the bridge below the saddles, date on neck pocket is feb 19, 1996, and date on neck is august 1996, handwritten.

by the way, do you know who zeta bosio is?

probably not, i'll tell ya later...

of course i remember the guy, just checking that probably no one of you guys out there have heard about soda stereo.... argentinian group from the mid eighties to the last nineties, one of the most influential groups in the so called latin rock... check it at youur mp3 engines, there's some nice bass lines in "la ciudad de la furia" and "hombre al agua"... simple, but effective...

Ah, Soda Stereo...they were always on the radio when I lived in Peru (1995-1999).

There are truly some great latin rock bands out there.....but my favorites remain Chichi Peralta and, of course, Carlos Vives!

well, even those two are well known over latin america, they're not what we call latin rock... they might be in a comfortable position between the salsa and merengue and latin pop styles, i cannot define it, bur certainly they're not my style... truth to be said, latin rock is an old classification, i guess today is not useful anymore...
