hey guys,
im looking to upgrade my amp. right now i have a peavey combo 115, 200 watts. now, for the cost, im looking to get a good 4*10 and later a good 1*15. i want to get an awesome head that will cover the wattage of both the 4*10 and the 1*15. which amps should i look at for my stingray?

ampeg would be my first choice. bovine has the setup your looking for. you could ask him about the sound from those. and a good head for the two would be the Ampeg Svt-3 Pro , or the Svt-CL which will give you that tube warmth and boom, or the Svt-4 pro, which would give you a ton of headroom and allow you to run a power amp into each indeividual cab. of course, the mesa 400+ seems to be a very popular choice as well. but thats my two cents.

is it possible to have a sub-forum that only discusses the qualities of amps with musicmans?

it seems to be such a common question that it would work.

oh yeah
mesa boogie 400+
Aguilar 4x10
Aguilar 1x15

sweet rig,

bass gear is wierd in that expensive doesn't always mean good and cheap doesn't always mean bad..

ampeg stuff a lot of times is fairly inexpensive (relatively), and is most excellent.

GK stuff is a lot of times higher in price and in my opinion is subpar. To me the GK stuff is not worth the dough.

Hartke's are a massive bang for the buck, I had a 7000 at one point and it was great until the crossover stopped working.

SWR stuff for the most part is great.

Ampeg is probably the deal. Having super cabs at low prices and a great warranty and excellent customer service. Ampeg is myt vote for best amp for not a lot.

Mesaboogie, excellent for musicmans if you ask me.

those are the only ones i can really remember trying or owning in depth.

i dont know Disquieter... Most decent ampegs are prety expensive/ GK's are moderitly priced, you can get like a 700 watt head for like 500 bucks, thats a good deal... I agree with u on hartke though, i love mine, i got mine used and it hasnt given me any trouble tho. SWR is great but realy expensive. Mesa Boogie is amazing but realy over priced..and yeh the sunns are nice, some of them atleast, i dont like their heads.

sweet rig,

Oh Yeah indeed
Mesa 400+
Mesa 4x10
Mesa 1x15

I really like the 1x15/4x10 combination. I have the 1x15 turned 90 degrees towards the drummer while the 4x10 is pointed right at my back. Boatloads of headroom and volume when needed.:D

one thing to remember when you buy you cab and head is ohms. you have to understand how they work or you might end up blowing you head.

GK expensive!? Are you smoking crack!?

Do yourself a favor, go check out a 1001RB-II. 700 watts at 4 ohms. $649 shipped from riksmusic.com.

You can also find the RBH series cab really cheap used. About 400-500. About half of the new price.

I love GK amps. I'm currently plaving Genz, but I plan on nabbing a GK 800RB sometime down the road. Great amps and reliable like a marathon whore.

I know this. Buy quality. Buy as much as you can afford, and buy more than you think you will ever need.

Honestly I feel Ampeg is Wayyyyyyy overpriced and overrated. Unless you are going on a major tour, why spend your next 15 paychecks on Ampeg or SWR?
The new Hartke VX paper cone series cabinets are the deal. They offer a 4 X 10.5 and a 1 X 15 cab that sound great with a Stingray. Add a 350 or 500 watt Hartke head to it and you'll definitely piss off everyone on the block becasue it rocks! If anyone thinks they can get a better value/sound than this set up, I would be interested in hearing about it.

Truer words have never been spoken. Its sad when I have to turn the gain and master volume on the supposively 1200 watt SVT 4 Pro up both half way just for a good practice volume.

I'm telling you folks. Genz and GK are the way to go.
