won't dimarzio cliplocks damage the finish of the guitar? especially when you use a soft case when going to practice or gigs?

I've had cliplocks on my silo special for about 7 years now, and I leave the strap on at all times. Not a mark. My JP has had a cliplok for about a year now, and also no marking.

thanks for the quick replies

i'm just wondering why JP's cliplocks are nylon and not leather. i think the leather strap is more elegant. is there anything wrong with a leather strap? or is it just a matter of preference?

i don't like leather, for me i prefer the dimarzio lylon strap since there very smooth when moving my guitar around it glides over my shoulder without taking my shirt with it unlike other straps i tried.

Personally, I don't like the plastic buckle clips associated with many nylon straps - infact CaptnMoto recently posted a picture showing one that had shattered on his Bongo. Luckily he caught it.
Leather straps will last a lifetime - mine is 30+ years old and still going strong.

+1. All my guitars used to have the DiMarzio Cliplocks on them, but I was always afraid of my finish being damaged. I took all those off and sold them and now I use the Levy's Leathers M7GG3 straps (same model strap that James and Kirk of Metallica use) with the EB Super Locks. I couldn't be happier. I don't have to worry about my finish getting damaged and they look and feel superior to anything else I've used.

i feel the same way, with these high end guitars i feel like the plastic clip locks are a danger to the BFR finishes,SO i went out and bought a $100 DiMarzio leather strap.(i must be crazy but when i felt the strap i just had to have it)..it feels like lamb skin for gods sake!!!
My O/G JP7 has a Levy's camo.

I have never had a cliplock strap break on me. I've been using them as long as I can remember. As far as the finish goes, I can't say that I ever noticed the finish getting hurt by one either.

Dimarzio Cliplocks - I don't leave home without them. :)

I use the black cotten cliplocks and the black or silver leather. I love these.

there are many imitation click locks, maybe that was one that shattered, ive had them on my guitars for 12 years now and never an issue. on mine when i put them in the case i wrap the ends with used wonder wipes to just block the harness of the plastic.
AS for leather straps they are out for me! never liked them for the pulling but more so cause im a vegan!:p

thats also one of my concerns, dstockden - if the guitar would still fit in the hard case and if so, would the space be too tight for the finish and the cliplock?

i ordered a BFR JP, hopefully it arrives in a week or 2... hence the questions about the strap coz i can't decide whether to use a cliplock or strap locks like ernie ball/schaller :)

I hope that the great Wazoo (formally k/a Captn Moto) doesn't mind me posting this from his thread on the bass side, but this what I meant about the buckle clip shattering!!
I nearly dropped my Bongo this morning!!!

Guys if any of you has bought a strap like this from the Bass Centre in London, WATCH OUT!!

I picked up my Bongo this morning and I heard a crack from the shoulder area of the strap, I thought wtf? and then I was quick enough, that by the time the second and final crack occurred I was already holding my bass safely by the neck and body, but if I hadn't, oooh dear!!

I phoned the Bass Centre straight away and they were very nice about it, a guy called Tom said that these straps have been upgraded ("does that mean other straps like these have been reported as broken in a similar way?" I asked, he wouldn't say) but he told me that a new batch is already on order and that they will send me a replacement.

I told him I wouldn't trust that particular strap anymore even though I had EB straplocks on it, the place in which it snapped does not expire me confidence.

It's a shame because it was a very comfortable, wide and spongy strap. But for me once bitten... twice shy, so I won't be having another one of those.

If any of you Londoners have bought this strap be careful, that's all!

And here are the gory pics.

Don't look if you are squeemish.

what was i thinking phil..hahaha here ya go.
this is the the DiMarzio strap,on there site it's called "Luxury Leather"I got it in 2 inch and it's by far the BEST strap i ever had in my life..it's so comftable it's scary.I used the nylon DiMarzio 2 inch clip locks for over 20 years and just never thought much about it,there good straps but sometimes the nylon would dig in the side of my neck upon moving around,so between that factor and the fact that the plastic clips were banging on the side of my BFR's i was like why am i taking the chance of getting my Balls scratched::rolleyes:
change is good,Leather is better!
