To all BFR JP6 owners, have any of you tried changing your PUPS?

lately i've been itching to replace mine with medium output covered humbuckers more so now since the 25th anniversary guitar was released.

to those that did replace theirs, how did it turn out?

i consider myself competent enough in the use of a soldering iron and have replaced PUPS in my other guitars before but somehow I'm hesistant to touch my EBMM because of the piezo wiring/switching.

thanks in advance.:)

If you do decide to go that route, be aware that some humbucking pickups (including some covered Dimarzios) have square "metal screw hole tabs" whereas the routing in the EBMM instruments is designed to accommodate DiMarzios with the rounded "metal screw hole tabs".

I'm sure there is a more technical name than "metal screw hole tabs", but it eludes me. They are the metal tabs that protrude from the ends of the pickup and accept the screws that mounts the pickup to the pickguard or, in this case, the wood body.

Just something to verify before you take any action.

Man, what a deceision.....

Most DiMarzio pickups have the angular bracket...... I do agree there are some covered with the square.

If anything I'd change the pickups in my BFR JP6 for the same pickups in CHROME :D

I have a Mystic Dream JP6 that I had 36th Anniversary PAF's in. They turned out to be killer. Even though they're lower output, they still get pretty crunchy and have a certain hotness to them. The clean tones from them blended with the piezo was pure bliss.

Also, DiMarzio's standard thing is the triangular mounts. If you wanted square ones (for another guitar or whatever) you have to specify square mounting ears, otherwise the standard is triangular.

@ wargmaster, petruccirocks02,

thanks for the input guys! :)

@phil,

did you do the soldering yourself?

i'm afraid i might fry up the pots and switches and from where i live, it'll be very hard for me to get the necessary replacement parts.

just to get an idea of what my guitar will look like if i decide for the change (sans the use of photoshop), can you post photos of your modded mystic dream JP6??

thanks.

Ras, I had my tech do the install for me. I'm not too good with soldering. If you go to the for sale thread where my RW necked JP6 is, those are the PAF's in those pics. They look like regular DiMarzio's. Nothing fancy. Haha.
