Hi everyone,

Had the good fortune to see/hear a Koa Luke in action recently .... stirred up a lil' bit of g.a.s. and also some curiousity for me :)

Just wondering:

* if/how many forumites are playin' the Koa Luke?
* tonal differences 'tween Koa and standard Luke
* weight/feel difference(s) 'tween Koa and standard

Just curious ... that's all.

cheers always, eh

Joel
p.s. my apologies if this has been asked recently

1. I have a koa Luke
2. It sounds warmer than the standard. Beefier sounding and not as bright.
3. My koa is heavier than my standard was.

I agree with BG.

My koa Luke sounds rounder, warmer, fuller to my ears. That is in comparison to my BFR Luke. The koa is also a little heavier than my BFR (but not heavy).

Fantastic guitar.

Koa Luke and BFR Ruby Luke here. Both are fantastic.

The koa is a bit thicker sonically and it has a snappier attack (due to the ebony fretboard?). The humbucker sounds great; the single coils are not as "authentic".

If I could have only one:

Based on looks and humbucker tone, it would be the koa/mahogany/mahogany/ebony. Based on overall sound (humbucker and single coils) and unfinished neck playability, it would be the maple/alder/mahogany/rosewood Ruby BFR.

For what it's worth, the Ruby BFR is the one I grab most frequently. I've bonded with that guitar like no other.

Seen a Koa Luke (mega GAS) online at Knighton in Wales UK at a wallet busting £3600 roughly $6000 :O. Will be in America soon, how much do they go for over there as that thing looks F*****G GORGEOUS (plus the ebony board is my preference)? Will it be justified after just buying a JPX around a month ago? (of course)

Hey Joe,

I think you answered your own question when you said, 'Of course'. I'm sure we all agree that 4 weeks is plenty long enough to wait. Go ahead, get yourself another. You deserve it, mate.

Have a great weekend...

- Tollie

P.S. I bought my Axii within one month of each other, too.

Hello,
My second Luke is arrived, KOA Island Burst (the other one is a BFR Standard Flame maple Tobacco Sunburst).
It is unbelievable, maddish, very beautiful, big sound than Standard, I am very happy
I hope that they do as soon as possible the Natural Oil series and so I complete the triad
