BFR Luke neck question

I had asked a few weeks ago whether or not the new JP would have the same neck finish, and was told no. It is apparently not going to have the oil finish.
What kind of finish can we expect on the BFR luke neck?

i think the JP neck is mahogany, thats why it will have a gloss finish, the BFR luke neck is the same as the regular luke. i think.

I think with each design being unique, such as woods for bodies and necks, it would depend. Some may be finished, some may not be. For the most part, maple and rosewood necks don't get finished.

Let me see if I can help.

The John Petrucci "F-1" will probably have a hard clear finish on the back of the neck, like you see with the typical Gibson necks and some Fenders. This is because the mahogany it's made out of is not a comfortable wood to play on when it's unfinished, IIRC.

The BFR Luke, on the other hand, uses Ernie Ball's typical maple/rosewood neck and will use the classic oil/wax finish that is used on the the regular production Lukes.

I'm rather interested in these BFRs, but I just can't play on those lacquered necks - it's the only thing stopping me buying a parker; those graphite necks just feel horrible, especially when I could be playing MM!

My friend feels the same way and he's about to sand down his Washburn neck (mahogany), but since your comment I may tell him his new project is a bad idea...

yeah i cant stand those Parker necks, but then again i cant stand many guitars these days that arent Ernie Ball. Once you get used to that famous oil/wax neck there aint no going back! EB make amazing necks, 2nd to none.

It's not that mahogany wouldn't feel comfortable oiled (it would), it is simply not as strong and stable as maple and thus needs the added protection of a laquer finish.
