BFR Personality- is it your own?

What can you guys say about the BFR? I've had my JP6 only about a month, but I just feel that it isn't so personal to me. I would love to get something more personal, so I'm thinking about getting a BFR.

What do you guys think about the whole personality of the guitar? I'm more focused on this than the tone issue. I know it probably sounds a whole lot better. Its tough for me to think about selling a guitar I've had only a month or so, but I guess it was sort of an impulse and I didn't get what I really wanted. Do you feel like you have something that is "you". This is my big thing with guitars, I just never feel like I can find "that" guitar- although I have found "that guitar company", if anyone gets what I'm saying. Let's be open and just talk about what we think, I want to be certain this is what I want to do.

Well if you don't like the JP just try out ther other models. I love guitars more than anything but...it's not so much your guitar it's the person playing it which makes it your own, if you get what I am saying

By all means change up and experiment until you find one that speaks to you personally, your "My" guitar (or guitars). I keep nothing I don't feel. Has nothing to do with money, I just feel burdened having something that I don't feel and use. I'd rather someone who feels it has it.

I think all guitar players know what you mean.

The guitar that just "melts" in your hands!! It was made just for YOU!!

I found that the guitar closest to what I would build would be a Musicman Axis.

Although, I would customize it, and tweak this and that, to my own preferences (like anyone else would), it's already pretty close to perfect!!

But as far as a production guitar goes - Musicman is it!!

And, the Super Slinky strings - PERFECT!!

My Silo has some serious mojo, and I just feel great when I play it.

The necks on my JP's (BFR & Standard) suit my big hands better (wide with flatter radius), and I love playing them, but they feel more like precision tools - which they really are.

My Axis SS & EVH ? - gone off them a bit these days. (Although the EVH never gets played anyway).

There is something about the Silo that just feels so right.

well, your hands and ears tell you whats right. My hands and ears love my Dargie Silo Special and my Trans Orange AL the most, followed by my CBP Silo Special and LE 08 Silo Special. I'm trying to get into my Sunburst AL by playing the heck out of it, i'm getting there.

just go with what feels right my friend.go to a guitar shop and try as many different models as you can get your hands on and go from there.im having a similiar dillema myself as i have a Lespaul that i dont really play anymore and was considering selling it to fund a 2nd ball.

You bring up a good point with that. When I played a JP, it just felt so perfect in my hands, sounded perfect, looked perfect, etc, but it felt like a "precision tool," as you called it (couldn't think of a better word). But when I pick up an Axis Super Sport, it feels more "fun." Maybe it's just the music associated with playing each one, I don't know, but it's hard to explain.

Interesting post, Diz. I can see how and why the JP would feel like a precision tool, which they are. And why the Silo appeals more to your mojo factor.

i think wot you guys are trying to say is that when JP helped build his signature model with the folks at MM,it was designed with his style of playing and to suit the type of music he plays.
So i think his guitar is amuch more technical instrument to suit a very technical style of guitar player where as the axis or the silo is abit more of a regular players guitar.
JP,s technique requries a precision tool like his guitar to be played on if that makes any kinda sense.

Honestly, even though to date, the Silo 20ths are my favourites in terms of looks, tone and playability, I can't help but love my JP6. Mainly because it's very light, and reminds me of a rapier in fencing terms. While jamming, it's easy to get so comfortable with the guitar and jump around, that you don't really realise you're playing something that's really not cheap. You sort of forget that it's there, and it becomes part of you. I swear it's the weight and the scoop. I wish the Silos had this scoop.

Oh, no I don't... Then the JP6 would be redundant... Heheheh...

I don't know if there's one particular model that's "me." If I had to pick one at this point, well...probably the 20th Anniversary Silhouette. I've got one, and I want another. I can't really say that with as much conviction about the others I have.

But...the problem is that sometimes I feel other guitars are "me" too--just at different times. The JP, the BFR JP, the Silo Spec. There's something about all of those that suits particular moods, physical states (couldn't think of a better way to say it), etc. Some days, some guitars just feel better to me than others. No one guitar has been the be-all/end-all. Each one feels like home in one way or another. Even though, I love those guitars, I still love other sounds like those of Lukes and ALs. There will also be room in my heart for an ASS and a regular Silo too.

I've found "my" guitar in the Axis SS... I've owned them all and after coming back to the Axis SS with the honeyburst I realized that's what I had been looking for. I sold everything else and am happy. Once I get the 2 that are on order, I'll have everything I need. Hardtail and trem, MM90 and Humbucker, one of each. Actually I was thinking that I'll probably order another one in HH, hardtail to keep in either drop d or tuned 1/2 step flat.

This is funny, because I see that a lot of the signature models aren't getting a mention. Anyone else notice its all Silo and ASS here? I'm going to hopefully be picking up Radrock's ASS soon, and then if I love it possibly just get rid of the JP for something with more mojo. I like to jam, and the petrucci has great tone, its just that I don't feel it to be very me. Its too late to return it now though, so PM me if you are interested!

Every time I pick up an AL it feels pretty cool. So clean and crisp, it totally draws me in.

ya some guitars and i dont bond no matter how amazing they sound play and feel. its kinda strange since sometimes its everything you could ever want from a guitar but something doesnt click.

ive found that for some reason my dont click with some guitars or basses just simply based on their color or something that trivial
