To cut it short, the 4 SSS is the swiss army knife of basses. It is the least typical EBMM bass to my ears. It can go places no other MM will go.

The H has a monster tone. If this is what you want.

Since you have a lot of H basses, I'd say SSS.

They both sound like god on steroids.. The SSS has a few more tones... But you can't go wrong either way. I keep an sss with rounds, an h with rounds, and an h with flats. The h with flats gets the most play these days, but that's mostly due to the really cool Aqua-purple color. The roasted is also a SSS with rounds, but it doesn't get out of the case much. It's just a little too black for everyday play. I need to put something pearly on it.

I haven't tried a Big Al single H, but I can vouch for the SSS. It's a tone monster!

Second stupidest thing I did this year was to part with my Big Al 4SSS, absolute tonal bliss no matter what knobs were pushed. Would go for a 4SSS over an H since the H would (for me) be too much like a Ray - and still not be a Ray. The 4SSS is master of its own kingdom.

H is my personal preference. The SSS that I gigged with didn't have as hot of output as the H does. I bought the H. A year and many gigs later i still have no regrets.

I love 'em both. I feel a different "creative vibe" when I play the single H. But, the SSS in series is MASSIVE.

SSS, just crazy tonal versatility and the neck and middle separately or together in passive are worth the price of admission alone.
