Here is my relatively new BA 5 with some different guards. I'm leaving the Tort on which looks way better in real life, but I think all three look good, as each one gives it a different vibe. The bass was built with the White Pearl. I bought the Black as i originally was getting it in Black but decided on the Candy Red which is a Happy Days color for me (63 on Saturday so I guess I'm officially a freakin' geezer, luckily I stopped maturing before I hit 30 ) The Big Al is an incredible bass, highly recommended.

Thanks all, what's nice is that with the direct mount pickups it only takes a few minutes to change out the guard. But the main thing is that the BA just kills, I haven't had a Maple neck in a while and I'm really digging it.

My Bongo 5H came with a black guard.

In the rehearsal room it looks really sharp... very classy.

Then I saw photos of the first gig with it, and the bass was practically invisible under stage lighting.

So I put a cream pearl guard on. Much better.

If you're into the "I want to fade into the background" thing, then black for sure... if you want to be noticed, go with contrast.

I would agree that the white pearloid looks more classy. I definitely pops more with the contrast. The black has a more understated class to it.

I'm going to roll with the Tort for now, it looks better in person it's not a great representation of Tortoise, but I pulled the plastic so it stays. They take minutes to change so it's all good. Can't say enough about the bass,it kills.
