I had the misfortune of not being able to play for the last 6 months, health issues.
As I began to feel better I slowly went through the collection starting with my 78 P, BFR Stingray 4 HH, 92 Stingray Fretless, Hofner CT (don't even go there) and finally to the Big Al 4 SSS.

During recovery I began to think about getting a J Bass again, not any more!
The Big Al does it all.
It plays so nice, is comfortable to hold, has a very refined sound in every pick up position, no surprises and no aberrations to deal with (seems every guitar I've owned has at least one quirk).
Now I remember why I bought this in the first place, it's an instrument that "just works" the way it's supposed to.
If I had to I could live with just the Big Al .... well maybe.
Thanks Ernie Ball for a great bass.

Next it's on to amps .....
Think it's time to get away from old bulky designs and move in to a more modern high quality combo.

Might I recommend you look closely at Genz-Benz for your amp head needs. Personally, my Streamliner does everything I need for the music I do, and does so in a very efficient package.

I've also been looking at getting a J bass, but every time I play my Al, I realize it would be a waste of money. Al does it all.

I've had 3 different J Basses over the years, never completely satisfied with them and easy to let go of.
Big Al, no way, she's a keeper.
How's the H version compared to the Stingray H? .... darker, smoother?
Have an HH Ray, just wondering.
