I auditioned for a church band in Temecula today. I guess the schedule of services was too much so they needed more musicians.
Anyways, the good news is I am going in the rotation. But the best news is, the Big AL caused a stir in the mixing booth. We were using Aviom in ear monitors and so I had hi mids/lo mids and bass all with about 50% boost
oblivious of the fact that I was liquefying the soundman's understage subs (hey it sounded good in the in ears!).
After the inevitable post audition feedback session with the sound guy, who can only refer to the BA as "the green bass", I told him that it was in fact an active bass with an 18V pre. He said he will just have to make a new setting for when I am playing. Knowing how important he is to my performance I threw in a bone of goodwill. I told him I'll run it passive, he said he didn't want to limit me (*aha* a real chance to get on his good side!) so I said my job is to play, his job is to make everything sound good. He said liked the way I saw things.
I think I'm going to sound good all the time.
