Hi.
I am a 11 years guitarist, but this time for me is very sad.

I'm not able to tune my Ibanez Prestige 7 string in B tune.

I get always a Bb tune. I've approached to study the "tension theory", but without no results.

Before Ernie Ball, i've tried D'addario strings EXL120-7 009, 011, 016, 024, 032, 042, 054, but without no results. My guitar is in tuning always by Bb, and if i try to raise up the tuning to B, the string tension is too much and some strings are near to brocken.

Now i've get 2 erine ball series: 7 string regular slinky (10,13,17,26,36,46,56) and 7 string Super Slinky (9, 11, 16, 24, 32, 42, 52).

I've to set up and tune 2 guitars for my near album recordings.

The 2 guitars is one the Ibanze Prestige 7 string, the other one is a Jackson RR3 6 string.

Do you know or conseul me, which series (7 string Slinky Regular or Super) i should put into the 7 string guitar and the other in the 6 string guitar, to have both guitar B tune??

Thanks Very much!

Have you checked to see what gauge string John Petrucci uses on his 7 string guitars? It may also be the make of guitar you're using

Personally I would go with the Regular Slikny 7String set. On the standard 6 string guitar you need a larger set of strings to tune down to B, I would suggest the EB Not Even Slinkys(0.012- 0.056) or the Beefy Slinkys (0.011-0.054)

I don't think your problem is strings. It shouldn't matter what gauge your using. The problem is the way you have the guitar set-up. Does it have a floating tremolo?

Floating Trem

Your Ibanez has a floating tremolo? I had one that did the same thing and it always got on my nerves. Ibanez has a book you can buy that talks about how to set up and work your floating tremolo. As for dropping a six string down to B you don't have to buy 7 string guitar strings. Earnie ball (umongst others) make heavey gauge strings that you can use, that way you save a little money.
