Here is a photo of a prototype three single coil Sterling. Dudley thinks it was made around '92. The color is called Pearl Magenta. It has a five way switch, bridge pickup button, six bolt Stingray neck, and bridge mutes. The switching system is similiar to the Steve Morse. More info to follow...Sorry for the poor quality, but our photo equiptment is currently on vacation. :D

It is kind of "vehicular accident" fascinating. And while I have been known to dabble in basses of questionable color, woo-hoo, even I - and this is saying quite a bit - would have doubts about being seen in public with a bass that color.

But those style-related doubts wouldn't keep me from wanting to try a Musicman bass with THREE single coil pickups! And what does that button DO?

Maybe they heard my plea and this is a HISTORY ERASER BUTTON! :D :D

Ahh.. I think Dargin mentioned something about it being for the bridge pickup. Perhaps a quick way to add the bridge to whatever is selected via the switch.

It adds the bridge pickup to the five way selector. If only we had painted it Blue Dawn....
The bass sounds KILLER! it is very fun to mess around with

I like how the pickups gradually increase in their stagger (if that's the correct term). Interesting colour

Is that a standard Stingray neck on it? Edit: Got to learn to read!

That's cool! Prototype or no, I'd still expect nothing less from a MusicMan. :D I wouldn't mind giving it a whirl! :)

SR4 neck on the Sterling body...

Is it just me, or does that look a bit off balance?

Go ahead - fire away!

Looks very cool, but to me, doesnt look like an EBMM bass should, I think its the lack of the double coil pickup and pick guard.

anyone else get confused by the lack of a pickguard? I kept lookin at that thing wondering "hmmm ... ok, crazy color, crazy pups ... but something's wrong". i guess ive been trained to expect the teardop shaped pg on EB basses. maybe ill photoshop one ... maybe even give this a new paintjob :) if i get some downtime at work ill try that out unless bovine beats me to it (or i get lazy)

I keep TI's on a number of basses but I would imagine that one would just kill with a fresh set of Slinkeys on it.

I do believe that one has some bite and I would not want to de-fang it

.....It would probably make my Dano Longhorn sound like a little kitten
( and that one does have a nice baritone roink with a pick and the bridge pup solo'd )

Considering it was a prototype, I'm sure that things would have evolved on it's way to production. Having said that, I think, other than the color, it would be cool.

I'd order a 5 string right now.

EB's attempt to recreate the absymal sales record of the Gibson G3? :p

Actually, I like the colour, and think it would look killer on a Bongo.
