As per a few different sites, I recently bought some Birchwood Casey Tru oil and Gun Stock Wax to maintain my Axis neck.

Only thing is, on the side of the bottle for the Wax there is a warning which says that the product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects!!

Has anyone had any advice on handling this product and is it as dangerous as this warning appears to seem?

This seems to be a bit risky, just for cleaning the neck!!

LOL, Az!

Kaiser, does the fact that the danger is only known to cause birth defects in California sound a bit strange? If you don't drink it, or stick your nose in the bottle to inhale it, it's not likely to be any more dangerous to you or your offspring than a couple beers.

No worries

Hey man,
I looked into this seriously as the missus is expecting our second child and I wanted to retreat my axis ss neck... It turns out that the official hazard sheet on the Birchwood Casey website doesn’t specify anything about cancer or birth defects. Seems like it’s a blanket statement they tack on to their stuff to appease Arnie and all the other Californians... You know I read something about how the state of California wanted to put a cancer warning on French Fries because minute levels of a a certain chemical are produced when oil is boiled...
No Worries as far as I am concerned and I am PARANOID when it comes to the health of my unborn.
The official health hazard report only states that you might get a rash if you drink the stuff, or something to that effect. Don’t sweat it and retreat your neck.

Make sure you have good ventilation, stay away from heat and flame, follow the instructions for disposal of rags and paper towels, and wash your hands after use. You do not need to use a lot of the stuff and you do not need to use it very frequently.
