Birds eye maple???

Hello

Can someone explain to me why the guitar guys get all the birdseye maple. I've been really thinking of getting EB guitar and keeping a good eye on their side of things and noticed that they have some pretty cool BEM!!! Why can't the basses come that way? I would understand that in the past EB made most of them that way but now a days I just dont understand.

I know the necks are longer, is that the reason? I really want to get a nice 6 stringer and the quality of wood really makes the decision easy.

Can someone explain this one to me?

i think it has something to do with the size of the neck and the price of bird's eye.

I don't like much "flash" when it comes to bass, so I can live with standard maple.
