Hey guys,

I know theres been a fair bit of talk in the past few months here about the new uk company 'Blackstar' as some of ye own or have tried out the HT series.
Did any of you check the new series one amps that they have out.they look and more importantly sound amazing and will definitley give other more expensive tube amp manufacturers a run for their money.
Im getting serious GAS to try and buy one:eek::D

I can't believe these things are still not available !

I was in constant contact with the Aussie connection ages ago - and after months of delays leading up to March 2008 (after an initial indication that they'd be available around Oct-Nov 2007) I went elsewhere.

Im totally interested in this new amp. I love the Artisan series! They sound like a perfected Plexi. I currently use the HT-Dual Preamp as my main source for gain. I really dig their stuff.

Hmmm...interesting Dizz.
Here on the Gold Coast we do have em.

I stand corrected !

From the original posts I got the impression they were only just getting the Series One amps into the market.

I haven't bothered checking for over a year, and just assumed wrong

EDIT : WOW, they are SOOO much more expensive than the distributor indocated they were going to be

Surprise, Surprise

Are the series one amps of higher quality than the Artisan series?

Hey dude,

Both are built to very exacting quality control standards at their facility in Korea, and the Blackstar team spend a lot of time there to ensure this.

The Series One is circuit boards and the Artisan range are handwired, but in the UK I don't think there is a huge difference in price.

Series One is more higher gain with multiple channel switching and midi compatible too.

Artisan range is more "vintage", but coupled with the Blackstar range of pedals you can acheive any sound you want.

I am awaiting the delivery of the Artisan 30 with a 2x12 cab.

Jamie Humphrey's main squeeze for his live work at this time is the Series One 200 watt monster, I think the midi switching on this helps him with his Pink Floyd work, but he is also a huge fan of the HT5 which he has used on some sessions recently. Jamie has also been posting a lot recently with what gear he is using and how it is set up.

Check out the website Blackstar Amplification

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Hey Lenny,

Check out the website Blackstar Amplification

There is a picture of "the guts" of all the amps in the Artisan range if you look at the products page, choose "Artisan" range, look at the "gallery".

I believe the Series One is PCB. Also Reinhold Bogner and Andy Marshall of THD fame use PCB boards, I think Andy Marshall wrote a piece about using them and there was a link to this from the Bogner website, (look at the "questions" page), explaining about the difference to the sound when placing the different components on the board...don't be too quick to write off our circuit board friends.

The amp is built in Korea but is designed in the UK, also the Blackstar team are regular visitors to their factory in Korea to maintain very high quality control standards.

Cheers,

The Devil.

Colinboy,

You probably know Dave better than me, he too is a champion of the Blackstar amp revolution and a HT5 user.

I am sure that he would look after you should you want to purchase a Series One.

I'm going down the Artisan road and using the Blackstar HT Duel to make it into a 3 channel amp.

My "rig" is very simple and doesn't really warrant the word rig. Consists of EB wah, tuner, HT duel, delay, micro amp. All stomp boxes. As you know I am from Yorkshire therefore midi and the like is only for girls and keyboard players!

Yours,

The Devil.

Thanx for that man ...but i am still gonna buy A North American amp...ijust cant see the price tag being that high for a Korean made amp ....maybe they should stop taking all those quality control trips to Korea and build them in the UK so they can be a bit more reasonable....

Seriously, build them in the UK for less?

What we have here, is a great example of goods costing more outside of the home market. Just as us non-US folks never cease to complain about EBMM pricing over here, you get to complain about Blackstar pricing.

Not trying to stir up old arguements, just thought this was a really good example.

A point well made.

Also I would like to add that its not price and where they are built that determines my amp choice, its my ears - does it make the sound I want, and build quality - will it still work after a good few gigs, I can assure you the Blackstar stuff is built like a tank.

If in the market for a new amp I think the 2 above points would stand anyone in good stead, (obviously most of us have budgets, including me).

I personally like the sound I can get from the Blackstar range, it may not be everyones cup of tea, but I would try it before turning it down flat.

Cheers

The Devil

p.s. See you in Brum Spud and hopefully more of you UK/European Knuckleheads.
