I don't know about the specifics but I know that I love the color and want a Stingray in the blue burst color...

They still make Pacific Blue Burst. You are probably thinking of Blue Dawn. Blue Dawn has been discontinued, but was last year's limited edition color. No special wood that I'm aware of.

there was a transparent blue burst color in the late 80s and early 90s that was a light blue to a medium dark blue and I think that is what barginkov is talking about.
