Shocked to hear of his passing.

MOTOWN.

That's all you need to hear if you play Bass & understand rhythm, soul, pocket, and style.
Timeless music, and along with JJ, he was IT.

RIP Mr. Babbitt

I had the pleasure of seeing the Funk Brothers live around the time the Standing in the Shadows of Motown movie was released. What a great player and a real class act. RIP and thanks for the music.

Nice. Didn't see the "Brothers" live; the movie sure was good tho.
Very touching to see JJ's picture on a chair, in with the band.

...And Mr. Babbit laying it down!!! Heaven is rockin' in the pocket tonight!

He was the last one ... :-(

I got to watch him play a whole show
from about 15ft away. He so efficient
you hadda watch really closely to be
sure his fingers were moving at all. He
seldom shifted postion, and not very
far when he did. From within that tiny
bit of neck he played perfection lines.

Got this in email today, worth a watch!

Bob Babbitt to be Remembered on NBC's Rock Center
As many of you know, legendary Motown house bassist Bob Babbitt passed away earlier this week. TONIGHT on NBC's Rock Center (hosted by Brian Williams), they will pay tribute to Bob using as part of the week-in-review segment. The footage that they will use is a part of our 2010 interview in which Bob plays the bassline to Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered", one of his most famous recordings. This will be a great way to pay tribute to one of our bass bretheren on a national media scale, and it's an honor that they want to use our footage.

Rock Center airs TONIGHT at 10pm/9c on NBC! Please tune in and help support!

Mr. Babbit and JJ , two at the top of the chain, will live on, because what they DID and how they PLAYED
influenced every single Bassist that cares and feels a pocket, a groove, and looks towards style, substance, rhythm and bringin' the FUNK! to what they play.
In that field, that's about as high an accomplishment as you can attain; to be an INFLUENCE.
And even if they're not here to do more recordings and live performance, their brilliant work will be heard and copied in a good way as long as the Bass Guitar is around.
