Sapphire black is a pearly kind of finish. Kind of-sort of metallic. Black is... well, black.

The piezo... adds a new dimension oriented at right angles to the normal three of up, down and sideways.

You'll find out soon enough....

Here's a piezo tip: Try moving your plucking hand all over the place... up the neck, down by the bridge... you can get all kinds of really cool sounds that way. When I play a ballad like "At Last" I hit the piezo on my fretless, pluck way up the neck and it's beautiful.

I can't tell you anything about the color differences, but after a few helpul tips and words of wisdom from GW and shakinbacon, I'm so glad that I got the piezo... it really adds a 3rd dimension to the sound capabilities of the bongo! But BEWARE...you will have TONS of experimentation time ahead of you to tame that beast! :)

Looks like I may be getting it next week. I am seriously pumped about this bass. Been playing Sterlings since about 2003,and just suddenly got the hots for a Bongo 5. The tension is killing me!!:D

Here is the very same bass from different angles:

First it's black...

Then it's blue...

As for the piezo, well that is like adding an extra dimension to the sound of the two neodymium humbuckers, it adds sparkle to the highs, and it is most useful when your strings are near dead as it gives the overal sound a lifeline, dull strings will infact sound a lot brighter.

You have a blend pot which allows you to dial the piezo with the mag pickups and when used 100% it near enough emulates the sound of an acoustic bass, I don't mean an upright contrabass, I mean one of those acoustic basses with a piezo pickup in the bridge.

Overall I think all basses should have a piezo option, as it is a great thing to have on muddy stages that absorb all your top end, and specially when recording directly into the board, the piezo gives you more presence.

You will give that Jazz away. It isn't even worth selling.

Congrats, that's a gorgeous bass.

You know, I was one of the people interested in that one. Unfortunately for me the bass I was selling didn't sell in time, otherwise I would have tried snagging it myself. ;)

Anyway, you got yourself a nice one. Enjoy!

Dude -

You are going to be digging this bass like cooked food! The HHp Bongo is truly one of those "I don't need another bass because this one can handle any gig, anywhere, any time" kinds of instruments.

Trust me on this. It's going to blow your mind.

The only thing that worries me is that I will like it better than my Sterling 5 H! That bass has been my go to bass since early 2008. I'll just take both of them to gigs!!

Putting EB Straplocks on it as I'm writing this. Just going to tweak the neck a bit,and off to a gig this afternoon. So far,I'm really digging it. Not even going to plug it in until soundcheck! If what everone is telling me is true, there might be a few more of these in my arsenal in the near future. :D
