I am currently negotiating a price with my dealer on a new Bongo 5 HH.

The stockists in the UK have a Sapphire Black w/black pearl guard in stock, but being me, I always want something thats never in stock haha.

Firstly, is the Sapphire Black extremely dark? Im probably the only person who doesnt like black that much.

Secondly, if I order a different one, it will be Sky Blue. Tort or Pearl White guard? I need photoshop pics if possible!

Thanks!

If it was me I'd go for a bright colour - maybe tangerine or sky blue. I think I've seen pics of a sky blue with white pg (Bass Central or Perfect Bass sites??).

You may know I'm not a lover of tort, but I do have a tort Bongo 5HH pg...........and a pale blue toaster - I can assure you the colours don't sit well together - I was going to post a pic but thought it was far too OT and I know a lot of people here love tort and may be offended!

Sapphire black is kind of like a metallic black. A lot of EBMM finishes, like Candy Red, Desert Gold, etc. are like that. If you look really closely you can see a sparkly texture to them… not a "sparkle" finish by any means (the flakes are much smaller) but it's got that depth to it.

I am a tort fan and I doubt it would look good on Sky Blue. If it were me I'd probably do vintage white or white pearl.

I think ill go for the white pearl/sky blue...I think they will match quite nicely.

As much as the Sapphire Black looks absolutely cool and 'classy', for once I want a bass that has a 'loooooook at my colour nooooooow!' vibe to it.

There's a sapphire black Big Al in the for sale thread which shows the colour pretty well.

I think the sky blue/white pearl is a good call. The tangerine also looks great on a Bongo.

If you really want to stand out, you could go for some nice clownbarf....

Check the pic I posted last week of my sapphire black lefty bongo 5hh. It's a pretty accurate representation of the color. It actually looks less black to me than my black sparkle silo special (if that makes sense)

I think the Bongo looks sweet w/ Tangerine Pearl or Sky Blue. I like the white pickguards or white pearoid. You can see Alex Al playing a Tangerine Pearl Bongo on youtube, it looks pretty ridiculouslyawesome

Orange basses are better.

You wouldn't hardly imagine how great an Ibby
can be until you try an orange one. I also have
a raspberry version of that same Ibby, and just
as you declared, it's not the same.

No, Sapphire Black is not extremely dark. A black pickguard would still be very visible on that colour. You can see some pics of my sapphire black Bongo 5 HHP here: guenter's Album: Bongo 5 HHP
(Think of it as a metallic, very dark grey with a tint of blue)

Yeah, sort of like the paint on cars.
