A very long story cut reasonably short:

My loved one (a wealthy lovely woman she is) knows I am a hard worker, DAMN I am always on this xxxxing ship 24/7 with very little time off, well she heard my wishes and my plea and decided I deserve to get this Bongo thing, that I have been talking so much about it with her, in our recent correspondance.

However she travels a lot for business too (quicker than me cause she flies) so it appears she can pick one up in Canada (surely cheaper than UK we've worked it out) We shall order it this week but before I do I need some advice from all you nice people.

The colour I want its undebatable, there's no other colour in my book than RED, but... here is the dilemma,

1st Question: How many variants of red are offered presently by EBMM, solid red? candy red? translucent red? what red?

2nd Question: undoubtedly it will be a HH, sadly with rosewood fingerboard, unf. they don't come in maple so I'll have to live with that, but I NEED a pickguard that will blend so much with the colour that will not look like the hole in the toilet so to speak, so what do you suggest?

3rd Question: we're ordering it this week and can someone at EBMM confirm who is the biggest dealer in Alberta, Canada?

Thank You in advance for your suggestions.

Get a clear acrylic aftermarket one!

BTW, I think that cabernet rouge looks cool on the Bongo.

Thanks oli@bass, I've just noticed on the EBMM webpage there is chart with all the colours that the Bongo comes in and its either cabernet or candy, but cabernet its a bit too dark and moody for my liking, so Candy is the only option as far as red is concerned, however...

it didn't occurr to me at first, but a stealth black Bongo does a good job of blending the pickguard unfortunately the rosewood fingerboard looks slightly out of place what-a-shame!

grrr... if I only I could get on with a "none more black"* (*Spinal Tap quote :) ) bass, but... nah... bollox to that, Candy Red is, and as you've suggested I'll have to find someone that makes clear aftermarket p/gards.

Cheers ;)

Probably Long and Mcquade is the biggest, but then again if she is dealing with a particular company in Canada, you could probably use any dealer and have them ship it to the ppl she is doing business there with perhaps.

Well not wanting to disclose her job, she can buy tax free and then bring it over as a gift, so that wouldn't be a problem, we've now found a dealer in Calgary, so she is going to contact them Monday. Let's wait & see...

Anyone good at photoshop can they please superimpose as tortoise shell on Bovinehost's bass, I think red and tortoise would look good too.

Personally I think the pickguard really makes the look of the bass work well.

I got my new candy red Bongo 5H to band practice for the first time tonight. I swapped out the white ice guard that came with it for the black one off my 07 LE, and the black looks really, really good.

A whole lot like this, in fact.

Um....

That "street seller," my friend, happens to be Sterling Ball, president, CEO, chief honcho, head bottle washer, patriarch, etc. etc. of Ernie Ball Music Man.

In other words, The Man Himself.

aka Big Poppa.

The bass he's holding is a one-off Bongo made of mahogany. The construction and finish later was used for the 30th anniversary Stingrays.

Candy Apple Red with an abalone (pictured above) or a black pickguard will both look really good. Even white pearl looks really nice too. Candy Apple Red is one of the nicest colours on the Bongo. Great choice.

The Calgary Long & McQuade music store (and a EBMM dealer) is here:

:D :D hahahahaha, i hope you're joking!

He's a bit more successful than del boy ;)

Anf FWIW i think candy red with either black, abalone or white ice guard (if you can find one) :) Though the pickguard isn't too important because you can always order another one.
