Killing time waiting for my Bongo....

Once I'm thorougly assimilated, no doubt I'll start GASing for a fretless Bongo to go with the fretted one. I know I'd want a piezo bridge...but what's the consensus on the rest of the pups?

On my current fretless I have the neck pickup turned off, 50/50 blend of the bridge pickup and the piezo. mids and highs boosted. Nice mwah. Makes me think that a single H might the the thing.

What's your take on it?

After this past weekend I'm convinced. That Bongo don't need but one pickup.

I'm not a ton of help for that fact that I've only played my HSCp fretless- so I had to go with that. It's funny though because one of my favorite sounds is panning almost exclusivley to the bridge pickup and boosting the low-mids. On the other hand, I can get all kinds of really nice tones with the use of the single coil. I can't imagine being disapointed with any of the configs but I'd get HSC or Single H.

Andrew

PS-I was gone for a few weeks because I was moving into my new place. I need to catch up quickly! Good to be back.

HSp for me!

Gives a wide range of options. I am officially waiting for mine to arrive, but experienced this config first hand and was "wowed" by the tone! :D

{Welcome back Andrew - wondered where you've been!}

124% WITH YOU [as above]. When I saw the question in the subject line my answer was clear to me, and moments before I would have written it, I read exactly what I would have written, read it in your post above. Your settings on the bass itself are same as I use.

That said, since a Bongo *IS* a Bongo, I think I'd still add the single at the neck, to go thick and woofy for the occasional need, or to blend in just a little woofy if faced with some rig or system that's too crystal clean or way too hot in tone. So in the poll, I voted for HS+P.

I'll add that I play mainly fretless, but I just got my Bongo HH5 2 wks ago, and it has frets, and it has restored my faith in frets.
