hello everybody. I went down to my local instrument establishment the other day. And what do you think i saw?

it is a Bongo 5 HH for only a low low price, to low to show. The bass tech there said that it was an aquired taste. So aquired that the price on th bass has been droped probably 3 times. Im gonna start saving and hopefully get a job now that i am 16. Maybe in 3 or 4 months, she will be mine.

Hey guys ~ I hate to play moderator, but Jack's still hung over ("I bleeb").

Posting EBMM street prices is not allowed on the forum per BP himself.

You might want to delete the prices from your post.

Bongos are heavily discounted @ my local GCs also. Tempting in fact.
For better or worse, my local GC didn't discount the Bongo at all. Seemed like a normal price to me. If it was low enough, I'd probably have walked out of the store with one. Those things just sound and play so incredibly nice.

Kinda depends on how long they have had it. I got my 4HH this fall at GC in Dallas, and it was a 2003, that had been there for almost two years, so it was marked down pretty nicely. They also had more recently built 4HH Bongos that were not. The trick is to find an older one that never sold - their system forces them to mark it down to move the older inventory.

Be aware that the older Bongos do not come with a case. The newer ones do.

The gen-u-wine EBMM case is an SKB with the EBMM logo molded into the lid.

So adjust your thinking $100 either way.

If it's an older one and you talk them into a case make sure the Bongo fits....

Exactly how I got mine. Hung 2 years unsold. The mgr implied that compensating funds come from the manufacturor, which I seriously DOUBT [fair trade etc]. I think the funds come from GC corporate by some inventory-aging-formula. I suppose if the inventory is on some sort of "floor plan" finance deal, it might be the loan contract has certain features that promote these price reductions.

What I DO believe is the second half of his statement, that the store manager is free to spread his finite "Clearance Sale Allowance" into his targeted [older] inventory as he sees fit. IOW, he can make numerous minor discounts, or he can focus on a few high ticket non-movers and make them 'irresistable'. We all poke fun at 'bean counters', but every now and then they do us right.

So, locally, whether you see deals you can't resist, or whether you don't, probably depends on how the manager chooses to distribute his "allowance". Any GC insiders have comments to offer?
