Play a ton of current stuff. I favor the neck a bit. Start all of the eq flat (including my amp), bump the bass a bit, pull the high lows a bit and low mids a bit more, bump the highs... cuts like a knife through the mix of the bands I am playing out with.

It is WAY TOO EASY to get carried away with the Bongo's eq system (even the 3-band is a brute). Best way to find what works for you is to start flat and just start fiddling around but remember a little goes a long way.

I always start out flat and then make very subtle adjustments to suit the room and live mix. I get a great P bass tone with the neck P/U only, bass cut just a bit, treble cut a little more than the bass, and the upper mid boosted just a little. Nice!

I'll take some photos next weekend when I get my camera :)

BTW I really like the sound of this bass flat with pickups in the middle...sounds awesome

You and I are going to get along just fine!

Um, some of these other guys are "awesome bass players".

Me, I'm Jack. Welcome!

PS: need photos of your bass or we'll taunt you mercilessly.

I can live 24/7 with the pickups panned in the middle, and all the EQ controls set flat except the treble which I roll off completely.

Interesting. I've been toying with that but the voice in my head goes "the forum dudes say don't dime anything" so I've backed off. Time to reconsider

You misread me - nothing is dimed. The pickup pan knob is in the middle - both pickups blended fully, and all of the EQ knobs are flat (centred, in the detent position ie. "half way") apart from treble which is on "0"

Well, I obviously have a different tone in my head :D

The only Bongo I've try recently was nice blue HSp 5 model.
I was first balanced pan pot about 80% to bridge humbacker, than added 25% bass and treble boost.
Cut a high middle about 20% and add low middle about 20%!
Piezo all the way boosted!

After that trying to play "Chicken" standard, and some other fingering schemes, it was pretty something! Very nice! ;)

Actually, I didn't misread you but my definition of "dimed" apparently is different. To me, if any eq knob is either set to min or max it is "dimed". Perhaps that isn't the correct definiton.

I've always thought of the center detents as the "0" setting and anything beyond that was cut or boost depending if one is going to min or max respectively.

In any case, I appreciated you sharing your settings as it inspired me to try a few things.

Thanks

To me, it's "dime" == $.10 == 10 == set at 10, as in full on.

Full off is 0 . . . .
