This weekend we’re playing a song that our worship leader wrote. I’ve heard him play it before but never played along. The chords are Eb, Ab, Bb. The conversation went something like this:

Worship Leader: “Think of a deep, sinister, growl.”
KevinM:” I have a Bongo”, and proceeded to lay out appropriately timed, back and forth walks on the low B and E strings.
Worship Leader: OOOOH!

:D

Very cool Kevin! We just started attending the church we used to attend before I became a pastor. They have a new pastor from when we were there last and when we went back 2 weeks ago, the new pastor and I were talking. He asked if I played any instruments and I told him that I play bass. They then asked if I would like to join the worship team to which I instantly said yes due to the fact I am not doing any playing right now and i love to play worship music. Saturday is my first practice with the team and I am bringing one of my Bongo's. They have never seen a Bongo before. Worship will be fun!

Good deal, JayDawg. It's nice to be used in such an awesome way.
We had our once-a-month Musician's Fellowship this morning. Although I've been using my Bongo exclusively and the house is set up for it I took my Stingray. I haven't played the SR5 in over a month and the poor girl just looked like she needed some love. She sounded as good as ever. I think she deserves some Cobalts.

For 25 years I had a passive bass with a single tone knob that I had set for the tone I liked best and left it there.
It could have been glued in place and I wouldn't know it.
As a result I've never been much of an effects or tone adjustment type until last year when I got my first EBMM.
Since then I've been learning a lot about using different tones and how to adjust for them.

I've been doing some experimenting with the blend and tone controls on my Bongo and really like the results.
My standard setup is with the blend set in the middle and eq set flat.
When I need more beef I bump the bass and low mid a little.
On one song that had sharp 1/4 notes I moved the blend to the rear with treb and high mid bumped a little.
Another had the blend forward with the low mid and bass bumped.
The Cobalt strings help bring out the adjustments even further.
This is working out very nicely. :)
