Bongo HS Question

I have been talking with a dealer that has a Bongo HS on order, and am thinking about adding some green to my Bongo rainbow (H, HH and 5HH).

The problem is that I cannot find one locally, and am wondering what tonal difference it would have over what I currently have.

Any clues or hints for the apparently clueless me?

It would be hard for me to tell you that you don't have all the firepower you need. My personal favorite configurations are the HH and the H, and you have those covered.

But let's face it. My mission is not to talk you OUT of buying stuff, oh no. You see, an important part of my own sickness is trying to infect others.

Hello, my name is Jack and I have six Bongos. Pardon me? Yes, I said six. No, I've never had this many before. Yes, this is an all-time high for me, why do you ask?

My blue fiver is equipped with the HS and I played it incessantly until I got the Candy Red 5H. Some not uninterested observers have commented that the Blue Pearl Bongo 5 HS is possibly the best pure player I've ever had. I'm not inclined to argue.

Perhaps the single coil has nothing to do with how it plays. Then again, maybe it does. One never knows.

The single coil is an interesting tonal addition to the Bongo sound kit. I had an early model and really liked the thumpy goodness of that neck pickup. Then, to make it even more interesting, Dudley re-designed the single coil a while back.

So think of it this way. What was good is now better. On that alone, you're almost certainly going to have to have one.

To me, the single coil is a bit more refined than the neck humbucker. Not exactly civilized, mind you, because Bongos refuse to labor under the yoke of normal society, but it's not the teeth-bared nasty growl of the humbucker.

Plus, let's be serious here, you could have another color.

Whatever Dudley did with the single coil is magic! I've got several single coil basses, some have Barts, Fralin and different custom shop offerings, but the MM single coil is far my favorite.

But like Jack, since I got a single H... well its new and I've been bonding with it more.

You need both a four and five string hs bongo methinks.

think about it logically, then you could get green and blue and have most of the rainbow...
