Apologies in advance for new thread i did search till cross eyed...
So ive narrowed my Bongo search down to a 5 string Dargie II and a Sequoia Gold LE 4 string.
Both have HS configuration which will work. I Do like the ebony on the Dargie. I really like the sequoia gold
Color but the dargie is a bit cheaper and has 5 strings(used). I know some of u bongohead veterans have both
Personally and I have not seen them in person.Any thoughts suggestions to help a fellow out?besides getting both! EB forums help me a lot. I decided id join. Bought my petrucci recently and decided to look into EB basses. My favs now me thinks.now which Bongo to get...

I'm sure you'll be happy with either - the Dargie 2 has a colour flip - fine if you like green (quite a lot of people on here do). No doubt someone will post a pic or you could look through the photos thread in the stickys at the top. There are probably pics of Dargie 2s in the 'official gig pics' thread.

I wouldn't call myself a Bongo veteran but I would kill for a Dargie Bongo. Google the color and you'll see why. Sequoia gold seems cool and all but I'm not the biggest fan of gold hardware. I'd definitely go for the Dargie Bongo 5.

My Bongo is a 5 string HSP, which I really like. My reccomendation then would be the Dargie II, both for the extra string and the cool colour.

I would say the Sequoia Gold would be more rare than Dargie 2, if that matters to you. I think the Sequioa was the coolest color I have ever seen on a Musicman instrument. Pair that with gold hardware and you have a winner in my book, especially on a Bongo. JOSH

Hi and welcome.

The real question isn't about the color… it's the number of strings. 4 and 5 string basses are different animals. Which do you feel more comfortable with? There's you answer.

If you're a new bassist and not that familiar with 5s, be aware that it's not just about the few notes you get below low E (a common misperception). A 5 gives you flexibility, because you can play the same lines farther up the neck. That can make a real difference. However, the 5 also weighs more and has tighter string spacing at the nut (similar to a Sterling/J bass).

Personally, i'm not a fan of gold hardware. My last non-MM bass had it, and aside from the over-the-top pimp factor there can be wear issues. Gold is soft, after all… but if you like the look and take good care of the bass, there's nothing like it.

So if it were me, I'd get the Dargie. But you're not me. Be thankful for that.

Hi and welcome.

The real question isn't about the color… it's the number of strings.

I'm with adougie here. They are both beautiful instruments that are less likely to be seen in the wild than a majority of instruments--you'll never say either color is boring once you have it. String config and pickup setup (and to a lesser extent, fretboard wood) should be the main deciding factors.

Great feedback thanks!
Now that its been mentioned i did have an ibanez with gold hardware i hated.
It all rubbed off and got corroded. Thanks for the reminder. Sequoia gold definitely favorite color
But leaning towards the Dargie due to ebony board and 5 strings i think cuz it is more about hardware vs color its just when u pay big bucks u want a great color too! Maybe the Dargies great in person probably much newer also as the SQ is 2008.

I say go for the Dargie. I have a Bongo 4 HH Dargies Delight II and love it. It is definitely one of my favorite basses to play and was my first Bongo that I bought. I like the Sequoia Gold Bongo's too but prefer the look of the DDII over them.

The sequoia gold was almost too pretty to gig with..which is probably why I never did. The dargie 2 is a hella cool color, much less subtle and generally more my style. I am also not a huge fan of the year at the. 12th fret. You can't really go wrong with either choice. If I were in your position.. I'd be buying a big al.

Sequoia Gold!!

I'm not a big fan of gold hardware either (but I don't think it's softer b/c it's not real gold). I do have one bass with it but . . .

Problem is not that the hardware items are too soft to have a
normal service life ... problem is that the gold plating is softer
than chrome plating, and so the gold finish wears prematurely.
