I am worried about my Bongos input jack because every time I plug it in its fine but when I take the plug out it feels like it is grinding as I pull it out... Any ideas what its about or am I just crazy? I treat my Bongo like a baby so it worries me.

I took my Bongo to a store to try out some amps and the guys there thought it was brand new, even though I have had it for about a year and a half already.

Yes that is the first thing I tried... and I also just changed the batteries, not that that would have anything to do with it.

Maybe I'll just have it checked out. I am just not sure if they will take the kind of care I would. I would weep for weeks if it came back in anything less than perfect shape. :p

Have you tried spraying electronic contact cleaner in the plug. Spray some in and work the jack in and out. May solve the problem!

Well, I'm the last person on earth to call anyone else crazy (certain exceptions apply) but on mine, it does feel a bit different on the way out than it does on the way in. I have always figured it's the Way of the Barrel Jack.

Have you taken of the back cover and watched it as you plugged/unplugged the cable?

That doesn't do any good with a barrel jack. You can't see the plug.

To the OP...

You say it "feels" like it is grinding. Two questions:

1) Are there any marks on your plug to indicate that something is rubbing on it?
2) Does it affect the sound at all? Pops/crackles/dropouts? If not, then is it a real issue?

This is a commodity part that costs a few bucks. If it really bugs you, consider getting a new one and swapping it out. Ain't rocket surgery, just a simple solder job.

No, no real sound issues, but I just don't want to be breaking anything. If its cheap to replace than maybe that's what I'll do. Thanks though, I appreciate the help a lot.

If it's not marring your plug (which you would "probably" see if it were grinding" and there aren't any sound issues, I don't think you have to sweat any further complications.

Still, a couple dollars for peace of mind, is a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
