Hey I was reading the paper and had CBS Sunday Morning on and they were doing a large segment on design and its impact on modern culture. THey started flashing images of important new design and lo and behold there was a Bongo! That made my day.

I think the ultimate joint interview would be Luke and Martha Stewart.

For some reason, I think that might be a lot of fun.

It would be a lot of fun for him!
She'd probably leave disguted and insulted!
Quite funny actually.

BP,

You should be totally proud of the Bongo (and everything else for that matter)
As a designer myself it's one of the reasons of I love the EBMM. They're different, and pushing the envelope. Not trying to recreate history for the millionth time.
The Bongo, the Al, the Axis/EVH are all disctinct EBMM designs! Beautiul to say the least! :) :) Kudos!

Not sure if they still do it but you used to be able to request a videotape of the broadcast. Would be neat to get a copy for our viewing pleasure.

That option is usually availbale for any tv program.
Transcripts are usuall $5-$30. But , if you want video, it's usually not too cheap.
I looked into it for a program a few years ago and the price then was $200 CDN.

Man, I missed it! I had it on at my Mom's and I was playing my BC Bongo thru headphones and some how missed it.... darn it!

A Bongo and my Korg box go with me every weekend for my shift staying with Mom. She sleeps a lot and I get quite a bit time with my Bongo's at her house. It's a life saver for me right now.

Thanks BP, for everything.

As much as I resisted the Bongo's design at first I'm come to the conclusion that it's one of the most radically and ergonomically designed basses of the last 30 years.

Very unique and with a unique sound all its own. I used my new one at a gig last Saturday night and I got that BP sound with no problem whatsoever.

It was December of 2003, a dark and stormy night in San Antonio, Texas.

Or perhaps not stormy, but it was night. So it was dark.

I had what I believe to be the first Bongo in the city, perhaps in the state of Texas, received in November of that year. Sapphire Black, it was, a fiver with two humbuckers. I knew I was on to something....and I brought it to a local dive where certain people were having a "blues jam".

Ray Duke was there. Here is his initial reaction to holding a Bongo:

See that look? "You gotta be kidding me."

Later in the evening, I prove that "Rocky Mountain Way" can be played with one arm tied behind my back.

Perhaps that isn't relevant, but it is funny:

Fast forward to January of 2004.

I finally convince Ray to actually play the damned Bongo by saying this: "Ray, play the damned Bongo, will you?"

He does.

Note the expression, which could be ascribed to alcohol, but let's be positive about this. He liked the bass:

Leaping forward in time, it's two years later, maybe more. At least I know it's 2006. Ray Duke, you took a long time to come around, but I love you, brother.

May, 2006. Ray Duke takes possession of his Medallion Gold single H Bongo.

Dang, it took long enough!
