Used my bongo 5 on a session last night--it was killin'-- a little compression straight into the board----clear -punch--and wicked low end--I hope I don't activate the fault line ;)

Welcome, bongo man.

I shall be terrorizing the streets of North Dallas tomorrow with my Bongo fiver.

Soon, we shall rule them all.

Hey Guys

Bongo Man is none other than on of my dear friends and great player Cliff Hugo. Cliff does a ton of sessions around LA, was in Ray Charles band as a teenager has played with a ton of folks currently he is the bassist in Supertramp and the Carl Verheyn Trio.

CLiff was invaluable in the sonic testing of the Bongo. I also think that he was deeply involved with the Line 6 bass Pod.

Cliff also has the poor luck to play in some of my little bands like "Cold Beer, Warm Handshake" That band gets its name because that is all the guys get when they gig with this band. Cliff plays bass on the songs that I play guitar on, Plays bass when I play the Baritone and has to sometimes give up the basss chair for extended periods while I butcher songs with long bass solos. He is also an honorary menber of Biff Bay's Allstars and is forced to play all families weddings, parties. He will be at the open house

Feel free to ask Cliff questions about the Bongo I think he has one of the first prootypes among a healthy arsenal to conquer wherever he may be.

He may also tell you some gig stories, Sacramaento maybe?

Welcome and thanks, Cliff!

Is there anything different about the prototype than a standard issue bongo?

Andrew
hey Andrew-
there were different poles---the op-amps-(sp?) were slightly different and the pre-amp was a little different--values-etc.---also no indentation for flat on the eq. knobs--very helpful--
By the second batch Master Dudley had nailed it.
The new ones are amazing!
take care

Hi Cliff,
I was wondering what your experience has been with engineers and the bottom end of the dual H Bongo both live and in session.
I know that the few sessions I've done it's scared the poor engineers half to death! :D and live, my main FOH engineer has me favour the bridge slightly and roll a hair of lo off. that makes him happy so that makes me feel relieved and know that I'm atleast making it to the mains.

hey man-
the low end is serious and it's true that you have to be careful at certain times---like a high end car with a powerful engine--- you know you have the power if you need it.
Since many PAs are sub-woofer heavy--yuuck!!--- we are sometimes fighting a loosing battle. What happen to flat systems? oh well;-) If it's comming out of your amp cool--it should come out of the PA cool---
Favoring the back pickup can help and maybe even lowering the front pickup a little can sometimes help too.
In the studio I find the sweet spot (on the low eq knob ) and mark it with grease pencil --if i have to fix a part then I will know where the setting was.
there is always a sweet spot to be found--

take care

thanks Cliff. Most of the 'big' shows I do are all in-ear based witht he Aviom system (flippin' AMAZING btw) so I'm usually just taking a line off of what seems to be a rotating selection of pedals that a few friends lend me but I think I'm getting used to the Swiss Army Knife likeness of the SansAmp , anywho, mostly what i do is take the blend to just a hair off center towards the bridge but today I kept it straight up and it was fine, anywho, thanks for your time in development with the Bongo to help bring it to us!! :D there are times that I wonder if I should get a Sadowsky but then I play my Bongo and everyone raves and my hands and ears say "if'n you sell this it better be for a Stealth dual H or we're giving our notice!" :p
thanks again Cliff.

peter

ps. are you ever in Vancouver?? if so be sure to tell here in advance, I know of some stellar sushi restaurants....... and good beer and barbecue too
