Since, IMHO, one of the best features on the Stingray and the Sterling is the oil and wax neck, why wasn't this also applied to the Bongo? While I like the Bongo, and the painted headstock looks great on them, why the painted necks?

cause it wouldn't look good. BMW designed this bass to look very futuristic. and non-painted necks look....old school.

Izzit just me?
Nah... I agree. The Bongo is a very different animal and the painted neck works.

Also, the headstock and body are glossy but the neck is satin - I presume this keeps the feel a bit closer to that of an unfinished neck...

The Bongo doesn't look very attractive with an unpainted neck. BMW gave us a basic design, while Dudley and our engineering dept made it into an workable instrument.

Dudley's my hero.

It would be VERRRRRRY interesting to hear - from the source - how the Bongo development team came to what we now have.

Jack,

Maybe my dad will post about that sometime....but then again he is probably worrying about the fact that I can chip like Tiger at the Masters.

Scott, I have some Bongo info posted here . If there's any way I could update, revise, improve, change, edit, delete, etc......that would be ultra-groovy.

Jack,

You could improve that Bongo info by paraphrasing the whole BMW Designworks shpiel... it reeks of corporate-speak, i.e. it goes on and on without really saying anything. Much like my posts. ;) :D
