I wanted to toy around with a bass, but i didn't feel like playing. So I took the DG Bongo apart. Totally gutted it, removed everytning on the body and neck.
We often go on about build quality, but it wasn't until I reassembled the bass I realized the difference in manufacturing precision compared to all other bases I have worked on. The bongo really has a fantastic build quality!
While I didn't time the dismantling, I did time the assembly time. And in relaxed mode, some beverage, a good solering iron and correct tools it took an hour to put the bas back together. And It played just the same as before I tore it apart!
I even removed the truss rod wheel, and since I counted the turns I could put it back the same. I didin'treally expect that to work, but it did.

Hooray for the precision of the Bongo!

You should have taken pictures.

And, I won't really be impressed until you can take the Bongo apart and put it back together blindfolded.

You're a brave man. I probably would have had a some parts left over:eek:
Yeah, well there are two small wood screws holding the preamp mounting plate to the body that I had to think hard about. That plate is held in place by, if I remember correctly, 7 screws, and those two are not very obvious.
Another small thing is that most soldering points are very cleverly color marked, but the jack has letters that do not correspond to the colors used. I'm thinking they mean what they are, but I wrote it down anyway:)
Oc, and the pick up spring screws have subber o-rings holding the spring in place. Had to ask Kevin about those:eek:

Cool! I've been known to take apart my telescopes & put them back together again just for the sake of doing it.
