I am curious - with the Bongo's dual mid settings how are the Bongo-ers out their setting their tone controls (just on the bass, not your amps)???

Any tone suggestions?

Varies.

When I play a song that has a lot of slap, I crank the Bass & treble knobs to about 90% and put both mids at about 10% - Great slap tone.

As a general rule for fingerstyle I set the knobs as below:
Bass - 70%
Treble - 60%
Hi Mid - 40%
Lo Mid - 50%
(This will vary as I'm messing with it all the time);)

Goodness, I feel so conservative. I start with everything at the center detent, then adjust for (a) the song and (b) the room.

Usually, though, the treble is WAY down. Then, um, like the caveman I am, I turn the knobs until it sounds good, then I stop.

I'm with Bovine on this one. I tend to leave everything in the center, and then adjust depending on how I have the pickups dialed in.

I can't even imagine how boomy it would sound if I had any of the knobs dimed.

Hey Bovine,

Do you think the magic of the Bongo lies mostly in the four band preamp? I've found that I can great pretty nice sounds from my Behringer BX600, which has a four band EQ, with my ESP B205, which has a three band preamp.

But how about your amps? Do you leave the EQ and such all alone and do all the tone modding on the Bongo itself?

Hmmm. Where exactly is the Bongo magic?

I think it's more of a combination of things, including the pickups, which just ROCK, and the flexibility of the preamp. And then of course the player may well have some influence.

I do leave mostly everything flat on the amp, but it's hard to NOT get old school tone with a Sunn head and Ampeg cabs.

I'm a detent kind of guy too....though I do find that I'm cranking up the high-high nob a bit. The low-low does tend to come out of its detent as well from time to time. The others usually just stay right in the center.

Yes Bovine, the pickups DO ROCK. I've gotten so many compliments on how good this bass sounds, it's ridiculous, and I know it's not just blowing smoke up my ass, because I've not heard anything this sweet before either!

I've not checked in for awhile so pardon if you've already posted this but... How's that Bongo HS sounding for you?

I believe God started a nasty lightning storm last time he tried to sit down and compare it with the HH.
