I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem restringing their bongo bass guitar E string as i have since ive had mine now for 10 days . Unlike my stingray the post is shorter so when i wind the E string on (at the correct standard proceedure) the E string as it winds down the post chops into the polished timber bit just behind the nut at the headstock . Ive temporarily wound the E string on by overlapping it in order to bring it up higher on the post . Is this what bongo owners all have to do , or am i doing something wrong ?
Other than that , im very happy with it and it will take me more time to work out the sound settings on it .
A true work of art in true gold .

this would be the perfect time to talk to customer service. preferably through the chain of command. so first talk to your australian dealer -who talks to-> australian distributor -who talks to-> ernie ball :)
if that doesnt help, their contact details are in my signature :)

On every EBMM I've ever owned (4 to be exact) the lower strings contact the wood just behind the nut... doesn't seem to have any effect on anything

I think I know what you mean...and if I do indeed know what I think you mean, then my Bongo has the same thing. Doesn't seem to affect anything at all.

hehe.. you can never get your bongo to sound like a ray, but the ray can never get that warm, brownish, gooey, rich in harmonics goodness of a bongo :)
i love them both for what they are :)

MrM : I spent yesterday with my SR4 and bongo turning dials on my ampeg i wouldnt normally turn . My pet hate dial is that midrange . With the SR4 ive always ignored it , but it does wonderous things for the bongo sound for me anyway . My SVT 3 setting are @ CLOCK TIME EG : gain @ 9 bass @ 2 midrange @ .....yep 3 freq @ 4 treble @ 10 master @ wherever tubegain @ full on . EQ: 123 up to 70% 4 up 75% 5 up 80% 6 up 85% 7 up 90% 8 up 80% 9 up 70% . EQ: volume @ 70% . Percentages are worked out from the bottom to the top , half way being 50%. HI LO BRT and -15db all pushed IN , including EQ.And getting a bongo to sound like a ray ! i wont go there ! Ill just reinvent my selective hearing problem .

Uh huh ...... Most basses, of most makers, have grooves
there from the strings. OTOH whuzzup with the SHORTER
low-string peg ? They're all spozed to be alike :-/

My bongo doesn't have groves past the nut. I have 2 wraps on each string, stays in tune great. Maybe your nut is cut too low.

I was thinking along those lines myself. On my new Bongo I re-strung it with Cobalts. I cut the length that same as the ones I pulled off and it gave me two wraps on each post. With the string end all the way inside the center of the post they won't pull out or slip so no problems with tuning.
