Do you guys find your Bongos a little uncomfortable when you're sitting down? I do. The bottom section has got that tight angle on the end, and I find that when I'm practicing more more than about an hour, it can get a little uncomfortable.

I had a 7 hour rehersal for a musical I'm in during the week. We started at about 10am, and by 1:30pm I was playing with a cushion between my bass and my lap to stop it rubbing against my leg so bad (kinky bongo!). Mind you, I suppose any bass would be uncomfortable after 7 hours.

What do you guys do to alleviate this? Do you even do anything?

I've noticed that the Bongo doesn't cater well to sitting down as well. I play with my bass sitting high, strap pretty tight. Sitting down, I keep the strap on for comfort. While my lap does take some of the weight of the bongo, the strap keeps it stable and things don't get uncomfortable.

I haven't noticed any discomfort when sitting down with my bongo. However I do keep my strap on even when I'm sitting. Always have no matter what bass I'm playing.

My bass sits in the exact same position wether I'm sitting or standing. I've adjusted my strap that way. It's good for keeping my hands in the same position so my muscle memory works for me instead of against me.

Even when I wore the bass a bit lower I never noticed a problem with sitting down - asside from a bit of neck dive.

I have noticed some discomfort as well, even after 45 minutes or so.

I suppose those dudes out there that have thinner thighs than me might not experience this. Man, I need to loose some weight....

Giddy's on to something...

While 7 hours is probably too much for anyone with any bass, I too am wondering about the "lap factor" in this comfort equation... ;)

Hmmm... Are we gonna start posting our thigh circumferences now? :D

Bovine and Adelucia are right, 7 hours is extreme. I was going blind on the score. But I have noticed it during shorter sessions, often resulting in a dead leg. It's nothing too extreme, I just move the bass a bit and the blood flows right back in there. I must have it poised over a vital artery or something.

I guess I'll chalk it up to different strokes for different folks. I'm not complaining, the Bongo is the perfect bass for this gig ("Honk!" by Josef Weinberger, if anyone knows it). The score specifies electric bass, fretless electric bass and double bass, and I've got all the bases covered (bdm-tsh!). It's a truly versatile bass, I obviously just need to line my jeans with padding.

Yes I noticed that sharp 'femer jammer' point first off and I couldn't sit more than 1 minute with it. Wearing a strap helps, and I usually drape a towel or t-shirt or my Ernie Ball cloth over my leg for added padding. No probs now :D

I agree as well, I have worked around it by putting a small piece of foam between by leg and the bass.
But most of the time I'm standing in sessions or in stage. I'ts no big deal.
I'll take the slight incovenience of the bongo sitting down over the steinberger bass anytime. try one of those sitting down.

As i have may bass low on my legs, to fit my monkey arms, I dont like to play while sitting and try to avoid it (except after many hours when I cant stay up anymore).
But i never notice a lack of comfort due to the shape of the bongo ; I just don't feel comfortable in general when I play while sitting .
