To start, I am 18, and I have been driving my mother's car since I got my permit. I'm going to college at the end of the month, and today my mom has announced that she is taking her car back. I have been saving for two more basses, and just bought another bass for a project to get painted. Now, I have a decision... either take my bongo money and spend it on a car.... or buy more basses  I hate hard decisions.

Hers my 2 cents.

You have a StingRay and a Bongo.

Unless you can drive around in the basses youre considering buying, Id buy a car.

I'd go for the car too. You dont NEED these new basses do you? Its always good having a car, and if its your own, its even better!

You can't gig without a car. If you're bummin' a ride now to gigs, someone's gonna get tired of carting you around.

If you're not giggin', you definitely don't need the extra basses!

Ahh. I was fearing this. Looks like I'm going car shopping tomorrow (throws pictures of buttercream 4 and carbon blue pearl 4 bongos in trashcan). Looks like I'll be waiting a while for new basses. At least my guitarist will be happier now.

i'm in the exact same boat except my mom hasnt taken her car back yet...the only thing stopping me from buying a car is that i might be going to college in the city (NY) in which case it would just sit at my house and be kind of a waste...so if you're going to college in a city, especially new york, you might consider not buying a car

U. Penn :( so I can still come home on weekends to gig and see my friends/band... and that's why I guess I need one to keep at home, not school.

Ya know what's worse than not having a car? Having to take a bus to every flipp'n place you go. Also, there is nothing worse(in my experiences) than being in a band with someone who has no car. I've done it...won't do it again. If you are a bassist/drummer and don't have a car/truck/van you should do everyone in the band a favor and quit. It's a major pain in the ass. Plus, most girls don't want to date a guy who has no car. It may suck, but it's true. Get a car, you have two very nice basses.

no offense to all the pain in the ass, no car bassists that might post here,

the thing that sucks about the car is, unlike a bass, it keeps costing you money (gas, insurance, repairs) so you probably won't be buying any more basses any time soon :(

I still like the girlfriend with a car idea...
better still - a girlfriend with a car who plays bass and has too many bongos and stingrays that she feels like lending some to her boyfriend :D :D :D
